Is that your schtick to ask what something is that is common knowledge to 99% of normal people?

I thought you were trolling with not knowing who Carl Sagan was and now this.
I dont know 😕 sorry not trolling off to Google Then.

I like the interface in the Jeep Navigation all I gotta do is type in a GPS coordinate or an address and giddy up . I dont like voice command, never works right.
Once you’ve tried the Tesla voice command for navigation, you’ll know what I mean. It’s like turning on a light switch compared to trying to start a fire to light a torch. The jeep interface is decades behind. I dont understand why you have to press “enter” three different times just to get the navigation going.

I can see them blocking that somehow, similiar to the gateway security module BS.
Good luck blocking it on older cars. I swear, my next vehicle is going to be as dumb as possible. The absolute last thing I want is Google Gemini permanently installed in my car.

The entire car industry is trying to turn cars into cell phones - something to be replaced every 2-4 years that you don't actually own. Oh, you can "own" the hardware, but not the software that makes it function; it will be nothing more than a mobile spyware device.

Mine is awesome. It blocks all my spam calls and texts, and lets me know when weird shit is going on outside my house.
Look, me covering myself in peanut butter and hiding in the tree in your back yard is hardly what I'd call "weird shit."

And stop blocking my calls, you NEED that extended warranty on your toaster!

Assuming GeeEmm doesn't claw this back like they did before they're pretty screwed- what they have currently is garbage. Doubtful they're going to come forward with anything remotely better.

My Boomer father has a 2024 Sierra Denali and endlessly complains about the stereo system being too complicated, too poorly designed, too difficult to use even with CarPlay, etc. He's even threatened to trade it on a Ram Tungsten until Mom and his accountant talked him out of it. He says his Vette's system is far easier to use and CarPlay doesn't take a couple menus to get through to activate. I initially thought it was Ok, Boomer type stuff but my younger sis complains about the same stuff on her 2024 Yukon. I drove his truck one day and... that system is horrible. There is nothing redeeming about it I could find, starting with having to enter a PIN to activate the head unit? Stupid as a soup sandwich.

Meanwhile I put a Chinesium stereo in my 2004 BMW because I like CarPlay that much. CarPlay and Android Auto are the de factor standards. Spending engineering dollars on alternatives is pointless and wasteful.

The 25s are much better. I also like that you can enter an address exactly as if you were addressing an envelope - you no longer have to start with the state then the city then the street then address.
You can enter it in a more natural way.
Voice command has always been better than manually entering it, though, but the 24-25 TomTom system is a massive improvement over what Jeep was using.

I thought it was that plus making their proprietary programming open to Apple and Google but could be wrong. Then again they have licensed GraceNote, Dolby, Buetooth etc over the years so maybe it is the backend processing they're keeping close to the vest.

Even so, there are some battles worth fighting. This isn't one of them.

As an aside: I found out booking an upcoming trip overseas and lining up a rental car that CarPlay is not available everywhere, rather Apple licenses it by country. Whoda thunk it?

Lack of CarPlay would really bug me. When we head out on a trip, I can plan locations on my office computer, and they show up on my iPhone right away. Not to mention my music, XM radio, messages, etc which all rely on CarPlay. Just jump in the Jeep (or our Ford) and CarPlay is ready to go.
