Sounds like they will be doing what Tesla does. They have a more advanced infotainment system that does not use apple car play or android auto. I think thats a fantastic move.

Pretty simple for me, No Car Play = no buy, full stop, walk away. This goes for rentals too. We take a two week to Maui every year I rent a Jeep - feels like home and I know where everything is, without Car Play I'd be trying to figure things out - I don't have the patience for that, I want to plug in and GO.

An app for reporting ICE 🤣
I did get a lane closure warning on the display yesterday cause I had to take a different route than normal and there is a lane closure in front of a school thats right beside the highway. And I have got weather warnings on there also .

To me the Carplay takes all the fun out of learning the Navigation .
Carplay don't work worth a crap after you get to the end of the road .
You can record trails navigate via GPS coordinates, go to points of interest , see gas stations and prices, hotels, rest areas, ATM's ,go to a point on a map, search phone numbers, Go to the closest city . I took carplay right off my phone after the first week . Hated it .but I know we all have our things we like . Glad it works for you I found it annoying.

No CarPlay, no buy. GM was already incredibly low in consideration, now it's in the never category.

Off topic -- Yesterday, while using CarPlay I got a pop up on my screen telling me to try SiriusXM. That's a sure way to get me to never subscribe. I think since purchasing the vehicle we've used Sirius all of five minutes. I can hear the same 25 songs on my phone without hacky DJ's.

It appears though that you can turn them off if you have an account linked to your vehicle.

I love Android Auto. I'd be reluctant to buy anything without it.

I just save maps for offline use if I need them, or use Gaia GPS for superior offroad nav when necessary.

To be fair, cell phone signal is a lot more consistent in my day to day, and there is no 'end of the road' in south Louisiana the way there is in West Virginia 😆

Maybe newer vehicles will be better about this, but older built in Nav was awful. My 2015 Camaro had factory nav (and you could check weather, gas prices, etc) and it was atrocious and could not be updated any longer. I got rid of it and replaced it with a Sony head unit with Android Auto. Did not want to revisit that long term with my Gladiator.

Lack of CarPlay would really bug me. When we head out on a trip, I can plan locations on my office computer, and they show up on my iPhone right away. Not to mention my music, XM radio, messages, etc which all rely on CarPlay. Just jump in the Jeep (or our Ford) and CarPlay is ready to go.
The calendar scheduling > Maps is the best feature of CarPlay IMO. I'm constantly on the road showing houses/listing appointments and being able to tap once on the screen to get directions from point to point is such a game changer from an efficiency standpoint. I have it set to tell me when to leave for my next appointment to arrive 5 min early always. Doesn't always happen but it's a nice feature.

The newer built in nav isn't any better, it's just that the old people are just now figuring out how to use built in nav, they sure as hell aren't going to give it up now and have to learn how to use Android auto or CarPlay 🤣

The nav on my phone is always seems better than the vehicle or M/C I'm driving. Especially annoying with the Jeeps is the inability to program maps while in motion. The Jeep knows I have a passenger.
