Jeep Gladiator Mojave just hit 20k - maintenance/upgrades? IMG_7919

Team,

My JTM rolled over 20k and I think I have done my part in keeping it mostly stock long enough!

First I am going to powder coat my wheels white (kind of dig the factory 17s just want white) and I will be adding MT Baja Boss 255/85r17s to it.

I’ll either get the speedo fixed or go the Taser route to ensure shift points are right for bigger tires.

Not planning on re-gearing yet, I want to see what 4.10 feels like. So with new tires and a fresh oil change what else should I do/check at 20k? Fox Shock mx? Upgrade stock bits and bobs? Aside from what the owners manual says at 20k.

I am in Texas and 80% daily 40 mile trek, round trip, to work on Highways. Other times muddy roads and gravel bits, haven’t got into real trails yet, but on my list.

I'd change the dif fluids. Isn't required, but cheap enough to "feel good" to do.

Perhaps get AT tires instead of mud for daily driving ,their AT tires are pretty aggresive , but I do not know Texas mud! I went the AEV Pro Cal Snap as that was all I needed. There are a couple new unmarried to serial number in marketplace, it is basic cheap and if you are not changing everything else it’s fine. Nice looking Jeep…..Jack

Most do a V8 swap around this mileage. 😁
Ha, I would like a 392. But I have my F350 6.7l for power! I really want to do a Carlin setup and build an Overland beast out of the 350 but my wife says shut up and just pull the camper or she’ll take my jeep away ;)

I guess I could have wrote that better, but Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T. I am going away from the stock Mud Terrain tires that came on it.
It is crazy the difference in M/T tires of today vs early 90s. I had Super Swamper M/T on an old Ford back in the day and couldn’t even hear the radio. These Wildpeak M/T aren’t loud at all.

The Mickey Thompson Baja Boss are A/T.
Justin they make both MT and AT , he said MT in his post for either Mud or Mickey Thompson but looking at the AT tread they are pretty aggressive and might be better for 80% highway driving, although if they don’t get through Texas mud that would suck , he is going skinny tire as I did with no regrets, all good my friend and thanks for what you do here….Jack

Switching gears to a some things I'd do early if I had a new Gladiator:

At between 1,000 miles and 5,000 miles (opinions vary, so I'm listing a range):
1. Change motor oil and filter
I know, this guidance is a bit late in your case

For guidance on oil change intervals, also see: Motor Oil & Oil Filter Service Intervals

To make sure the fluids look good (no large metal shavings) and the fluid levels are correct:
2 & 3. Drain & fill front & rear differentials
4. Drain & fill transfer case

This one won't hurt especially since you've done some off-road travel:
5. Change engine air filter

I hit 20k 30k ago in my Mojave.

What I did then was change the oil and filter.

What I've done since is change the oil and filter 3 more times.

I am coming up on some new tires next year though.

I went to a 35x12.50 on my 21 Mojave from the stock 33s at 60k miles. At 80k I regeared from 4.10s to 4.88s and picked up 2 mpg on the highway and 1 mpg around town and throttle response and acceleration are better than stock. I live in Colorado, so going deeper in gears help compensate for the altitude. I also use a Tazer Mini to handle all my programming needs and to shut off the auto start/stop system.
