What? Street parking? Maybe in some small towns with no reason to go to them, no shopping available there.
They didn't plan for all of the traffic, so basically removed most on-street parking except in some areas.
Where there is street parking in Des Moines, it's downtown (nothing there for shopping) and those all have meters.
Man. You’ve been in IA too long. You absolutely have to street park in urban and suburban areas. In the last ten years, I’ve lived in three states, all over the country. Literally thousands of miles across the country. Street parking is definitely a thing in large, popular suburban areas, as well as more urban/downtown areas.

This is kind of a moot point though. The width of parking spots is less of a concern in parallel parking areas than tight spots in parking lots.

What is all the shopping in strip malls? Costco, home depot, maybe oreillys. Anything else I need can be ordered to the house. All the places I frequently go either have huge lots or overflow lots with trailer parking available. Even the local breweries seem to understand that. Maybe that's why the whole parking concern is lost on me. Be it the crew cab super duty or my company prius they have all parked everywhere I go. Aside from towing a trailer I've never once gave parking a second thought. Maybe I need to go thrifting or antiquing or whatever people do in strip malls to share your pain.
Obviously a lot different there. Eating places are either stand-alone or in strip malls
Costco is no problem at all - park away from the crowd and walk. Walmart - same thing, or go early in the AM - no problem.
I noticed that these things vary a lot from area to area.
Trailer parking? LOL - no such thing here, except in the big box stores, costco and such..

The breweries here are in old downtown Des Moines, parking can be an issue there as well, but you can use the ramps.
LOL - now you are getting insulting - thrifting of antiquing? WOW, you just can't accept that it's different outside of where you live and shop.

Seriously, not here. The way things grew, that all disappeared.
I can't even name the last time we went shopping in this county where there was any street parking. There was in Pella - if you could find a parking spot. You needed to park blocks away from your destination. But not in Ankeny, Altoona or Des Moines. The county offices (and I do all I can online with them now), you often sit in a line in the street waiting to get into that parking lot. When someone leaves, they let someone else in. You pay a couple of bucks for the time you are inside with the DMV or whatever. I've waited in line 10 minutes to get into the lot and park.

It is all relative. I agree that compared to 80's/90's vehicles it is a rocket ship. But that is 30-40+ years ago and unless one is a old fart to have the point of reference, most younger types do not have that frame of reference to cherish what we have.

The true judgement is what it competes against in the segment today and that is ever increasing DI and turbo forced induction engines that have more linear torque and HP curves that come on earlier in the RPM range vs. the Pentastar that peak torque is reached early around 2K rpm with peak HP around 6K rpm. Other engines competing in this segment just have a better off line and up to speed experience.

15 years ago when the OG Pentastar was released, it truly was a big thing and class leading. The last 5+ years, not so much and the writing on the wall says the new 2.0L Hurricane 4 EVO will be replacing it. Which really is a shame as the original design architecture of the Pentastar account for a DI and turbo evolution of it and other than the Maserati 3.0L version, FCA never took advantage of that.
If i had my choice about it, a small turbo diesel would be ideal. But, there still isn't anything as cool as the Jeep. Top off, doors off, it looks the part because it is the Jeep. Other manufactures don't understand the small narrow body has a purpose. Ford did the bronco, and it's a wide body in comparison. If you remove doors on a bronco it looks like is was stolen and stripped of parts. LOL Man they could of made a real competitor to the Jeep but in my opinion they just didn't, they made their own off-roader and it's cool, but actual jeep competitor? Hardly! Guys buying broncos and thinking they are in the same class as jeep are fooling themselves and have never been up "jeep" trails on a mountain.

You don't know how bad I wish the JT had a 4 foot bed. I mean dang that would be sweet. So wish someone made a 4 foot bed kit.

Not insulting, but I am a smart ass by nature. I'm also anti-social and the wife is a creature of habit. We have our 3-5 regular dining spots and even the strip mall by the freeway BBQ spot has street parking and a row of angled spaces right on the street on the other side so avoiding the lot itself is easy. I undertand full well people have different needs. If it's a dedicated urban commuter/ shopping run about I'd argue the JT isn't really the tool for the job either. An suv or sedan with a large trunk offers better secure storageand maneuverability. If I thought it was going to be tighter confines we'd probably take the wife's JLUR, definitely better turning radius, although the 39s make it pretty wide.

Traded in my JT for some HP. I will definitely miss being able to go wheeling in narrow places. Definitely sure I’ll get a used one just for that reason. Definitely happier towing and way more comfortable on a trip now though.

Our downtown nearby (Hammond) is thriving and is mostly street parking. For several blocks east/west and a few north/south. Its also all free, no meters. Id say its the exception around here, but its there.

Having recently gone the other way, coming from a gen 1 Raptor with the 6.2L (and owning full-sized trucks the last 18 yrs) to a Gladiator (and my first Jeep ever), I can see both sides of the argument. Having a truck that sounds like a truck is great. And yeah, it’s awesome to mash that pedal and feel something. I’m not going to miss filling a 36gal tank with premium, even at Costco prices, while averaging 12.5 mpg. And without any cameras, parking did take getting used to again.

Both are purpose-built trucks and are great at what they’re meant to do. But with the truck being a daily driver for me 95% of the time, I couldn’t be happier to have come this direction vs away from it. Small sample size/my 2 cents/I’m new here so I’ll be quiet now.

You don’t want that. GM did it in the Colorado and they’re painfully slow and so weak the 3.6l beat it up the Ike gauntlet. I test drove one when I bought my 2017 Canyon. I made it like two blocks and turned around. Awful. 3-4 sec slower 0-60 iirc.

Btw why did you buy a JT over a JLU if you want a 4’ bed? Longer wheelbase?

+1. I also had a 2017 Canyon All Terrain. The forums were always lit up with complaints about the Babymax’s lack of “get up and go”. The 3.6L put out an impressive 308 hp and 275 tq, but the 2.8L turbodiesel’s 181 hp left a lot to be desired (even with 369 tq)…primarily good for towing.

It still wasn’t that great for towing. A na gas engine beating a turbo diesel up the Ike gauntlet is pathetic. Steep grade and high altitude. They both towed the same load. The LGZ 3.6l is the good one without many real issues like the other GM 3.6ls, but you’d wear it out towing like that every day. But still.

I also had an all terrain. Good truck. I miss the acceleration and handling. Once I wore out the factory good years (in 30k miles lol) and put a quality A/T on it, it handled surprisingly great. Whatever you call continental’s A/T. I love continental tires from having a lot of German cars.
