Right side Cam kit no delay

I ordered a right side Cam kit from all parts and got it in about a week. Not bad given what the delays were earlier in the year. Received Cam and Followeres (rockers) and also ordered new lash adjusters (lifters) for intake Cam. The kit has plug seals, lube and VC gasket as well.
Broke down and bought the expensive tool set for holding phaser and chain tensioners. Harbor Freight is good for some things but not this.

I’ll be installing it this week so we’ll see how it goes. I only made a new post so folks know the parts are there now.

Yep, parts have been readily available since fall. Hopefully, it stays that way.

If only someone built a head without the high/low lift and regular roller followers, so no VVL. Reliability would improve significantly without an engine change. I can live with 15 to 17 mpg if it will live to 200k. Uncle Sugar wouldn’t like it but he’s not my Dad…….

The High lift has to be there . There is no way to advance timing and get anything out of it unless they have a high lift. This engine isn't like an old V8

Too funny, I know it’s not like an old V8. Unfortunately it would also take a computer/chip/program to make it work.
By then, you might as well do a V8 swap and get reliable power. If the nose wasn’t so short, I’d say a 4.0 with a manual.
The Gladiator is a nice truck, but it’s definitely not a jeep…..

The High lift has to be there . There is no way to advance timing and get anything out of it unless they have a high lift. This engine isn't like an old V8

The VVT changes the timing via computer control.

The VVL (high lift) changes air supply via computer control.

Previous Pentastar did not have VVL, only VVT - and it worked fine.

Since the HP didn't change that I'm aware of, I am assuming the addition of VVL was an attempt at better fuel mileage. Maybe it also moved the HP/TQ around on the map as well.

On an adjacent topic, VVT has been a wonderful thing since coming to engines (IMO).

I had two Camaro SS with V8s. one had the LS3 (no VVT) and the current one has the L99 (VVT). Manual trans cars came with LS3 and autos came with the L99. The LS3 had more HP but wasn't as smooth. It had a really noticeable increase in 'pull' as you came up to 4,000 RPM. Like flipping a switch, because you finally hit where the cam and RPM really worked.

The L99 is really smooth. It reaches nearly peak torque at below 3,000 RPM (VVT and different cam profile) so right out the gate your just riding this smoooth wave of 'pull' right to redline.

I'm pretty sure @Stan H is at 140K+ and his cams are fine. I agree though - it really shouldn't need be an issue at all.

Only real Jeep's have a four cylinder. That's how they came in the 40's (I'm being facetious).

Then straight sixes.

Then little V8's.

Then V6's.

Then turbo diesels.

Then turbo 4's.

The tools for the phasers and tensioner - you can get by with whatever kit is on AMZN (they don't have the correct ones for the VVL engine that isn't $100+), but you will need the correct tensioner "T" (or "J") tool. I got an aluminum one. The phaser blocks you can shave down for clearance to fit between the phasers.

Other than those tools, the only other tools I had to buy were the 36mm, 1-1/16 socket, and an in-lb torque wrench (I normally don't work on dainty things, lol).

When I ordered my kit in July, I actually got it in just over 2 weeks.

And no, from what I've read on here, the problem hasn't been fixed.

Just says 9-20 drove By in 3rd week of December on the 17th to do some Christmas shopping in a Mountain town about an hour from the house and it was sitting on the lot . Wife wanted to look at it . There were 5 of them . 4 sports and 1 Rubicon. I told wife if we get one its this one.

Yah, there have been plenty of mixed parts in a jeep but most were reliable, if perhaps not a speed demon. Reliable is all I ask.
And no, I don’t want a flathead but a solid 4.3 without the extra pfm might be nice. Roller rockers and lifters make sense along with Injection are all good.
just me dreaming. The pollution nazis want us all riding the bus.
