Best truck of the last fifty years.
The GMT800 is the peak of 'modern' trucks.
I love you guys, but this is laughable.

GM trucks have been pure trash since the GMT400 platform debuted and that was 38 model years ago now. It would take a reem of paper and a package of ink pens to list all the common problems with those trucks. Electrical issues galore, junk transmissions, junk rear ends, cab mounts that fall apart, interior made by Fisher Price, headlights that go out every 30 days, front diff actuators that fail at the worst times, fuel pumps that die and strand you, paint that won't stick to panels, rust everywhere that can grow rust, on and on and on. Absolute garbage trucks.

I had the misfortune of being stranded by a GM truck 3 times in 3 years. My dumb *** didn't learn from it, so I leased a 2006 Z71 brand new. It went to the shop 12 times in the first 13 months. I got out of the lease early and swore never again. I avoid GM like the plague now.

And apparently they haven't learned still, because Allison transmission just told them last month that GM has until June 2026 to sell all remaining inventory with the Allison brand name on it and then their relationship is done. These other companies are getting sick of GM junk ruining their reputation.

🤷 We have had great experiences with them, and whatever problems we come across are relatively simple and easy to solve.

I prefer the GMT800 over the 400, though I still have a 400 right now (well, what's left of one).

I cant speak for anything after they went to direct injection motors (2014+). At that point Id sooner buy a Ford as I like the drive trains a little more and the exterior styling. Or I'd buy a new Ram (based on styling and the ZF transmission).

But affordable older trucks I could buy right now with a little cash that I can keep on the road easily? GMT800 all day.

My '05 I did an airbag sensor, rebuilt the gauge cluster, and did both front unit bearings. There was a TSB for the evap canister that I did as well. I also changed the door speakers out as it had the base sound system and I killed them, lol. So, for a used truck that I had for two years and 30K miles, I think it was fine.

I've had three fifth gen Camaros, and between all three I had an AC compressor replaced under warranty, a TSB performed on some front struts, and my current one the backlighting behind the volume button on the steering wheel sometimes doesnt work. Oh and trunk pop button is intermittent. Haven't tracked that down. Its either a bad button or a break in the wire - probably near the door hinge, which is common to happen on many vehicles.

My mom has a 2006 Equinox with 254,000 miles on it. Outside of routine maintainence (shocks, brakes, hubs, spark plugs), I replaced a hi speed fan relay, a heater hose tee, a thermostat, fixed the HVAC blend door, and cleaned the throttle body.

Our GM experience has been relatively sound, but I know not everyone's will be.

My Jeep experience has been on par with my GM experience. Lots of little BS. My favorite part is a having a three year old truck with 35K miles and the drag link is already clunking and falling apart. Shocks that were pissing fluid at 25K miles, under torqued ball joints, interior that rattles worse than my 10 year old fifth Gen Camaro, etc.

But I like the truck. We'll go through the motions and work it out.

I have been in a few abusive relationships with GM vehicles. Love the styling (most times) but the reliability has been crap. Each generational platform change, GM puts out slick advertising to make you think they have turned a corner but it is usually all for naught and they move the quality shit bubble to something else.

They are all garbage. All manufactures make crap. That is how they sell parts, and more cars. GM has just gone south in so many ways. I had so many Fords go to crap while still under warranty, swithced over to GM in 1990, and have had better luck, but still dealt with issues. Failed distributer on a 94 Impala SS. Luckily it it was still under warranty, and it was no cost to me., and then the rear went south. Again, warranty fixed it. But cars are not a new idea, this crap should get better but instead has gone south.

I know a guy Name was Claude Burnside from WV worked for Chevrolet for 36 yrs. Wouldn't drive one. HE owned and drove Ford trucks. When ask why He said He knew how crappy they was cause He put them together for 36 yrs. Said He would rather drive one He didn't know any better wether it was a good one or not.
I have had pretty good luck with mine.
Some of my problems with transmission may have been my doing hard to tell . All I do know is it's as reliable as anything else I ever owned.

Had an uncle that was an engine engineer for Ford in Cleveland. He drove nothing but Mopars.

It’s widely known that the GMT-800s are extremely long lasting trucks. Reliable and cheap to maintain too. The GMT-900s are too if you remove the cylinder deactivation.

I see them all the time with 300k+ miles on them and still making it to the work site every day.

Im almost positive my buddy buys them with 200K miles on purpose at this point. They're broken in by then 😂

I know they rust out up north, but down here in the south high mileage ones are everywhere. Glad we don’t have to deal with rust.
I paint my frame once every year. To some degree . This past summer did the entire thing .

This is my gladiator at 6 yrs old. I used to take it to the beach and drive on the beach a lot, that’s the only salt it’s seen. It’s still completely rust free.
