Question is in the title. Looking at changing it up and wondering if there’s a benefit performance wise to going with a ‘24 grille instead of the same one that’s on there now. I don’t really have a preference either way. I like em both.

The only real advantage is when fitting a winch, there’s more room for the wiring behind the winch. I hear they technically flow more air, but it’s not going to make much difference. I’ve seen some diesel guys install them trying to keep temps down, but it didn’t seem to change much.

Well right now I can’t even take the dang grille off because of the winch. I’ll be doing the clip cut on the back to remedy this. I have the new winch to install but want everything on hand before I start it. I hate having to redo stuff because I only have half of the intended material. Planning to take a hole saw to the new grille anyway to allow for winch power cables and maybe a couple Anderson connections. I’d like 1 for jump starting and 1 for my portable air compressor. I abhor those battery alligator clamps. Yes they’ve been used for decades to jump vehicles, but they suck and they make me nervous so screw em.

Just looks, even removing the grill will not help air flow.

is of the opinion
that the new 24+ grille
obfuscates the iconic seven slot identity
of the Jeep brand.

To me, from a marketing standpoint,
the idea is about as brilliant as "new cola".
Drop the single most important styling cue
and erase 82 years of brand differentiation.

Thanks for posting that side by side. I think I needed that. For my purposes, at this point, I think k I’ll stick with the older style. Im
Planning a cosmetic modification and that one has the surface area I want.

The original question is still valid and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who will ask it so it’s there for posteriority. :like:

You really shouldn’t need to cut anything with the new style grille. When I’ve seen the side by side comparisons, there is a lot more room there. I relocated my wiring to the side, but it fit with the stock 2020 grille. I just didn’t like it rubbing how it was. I would have had room to spare with the 24+ grille.

I'm not seeing how they improve airflow, rather they hinder it. The openings are smaller, and the bottom sits more in the direct path of incoming air, making it seem like less flow would be available. In fact, iirc I read that the grille design was a reason why they discontinued the diesel and didn't bring the v8 over: cooling issues with the grille and keeping the design.

As for easier winch mounting, sounds more accurate.

I too considered swapping for the 24+ grille, but the cost and loss of cooling wasn't worth it to me. Looks nice, but function over form until most function I want is added.

For me the new grille is "less Jeep'.
My parents had an early 60's Wagoneer. When they changed the grille on those Wagoneer's to something flat and horizontal, as they have done to this, it ruined the 'Jeep look'. It is too bad Jeep is doing it again. I hope it is somehow functionally better to justify the look. I am as excited by the new grille as I am about 'evil eyes'.

I believe you are incorrect. The newer grill is more open allowing better air flow. And removing the grill completely would allow maximum air flow.

I am changing mine to the newer version because I have a Diesel and they can benefit from the increased air flow.
