It appears according to the Motor Oil Geek, pennzoil platinum and Pennzoil ultra platinum is no longer made from gas.

Maybe I am misinterpreting what he said. Your opinion would be welcomed.

So it seems they started to move away from natural gas prior to Iran kicked off. Then fully off using it. Slight reduction in oxidation stability of 8-10%. So yes same interpretation as you, glad I buy 3 packs that might get me thru till that pearl plant is back

But tbh, it also seems that yea, reduced quality, but still a pretty good oil I guess

Interesting. I haven't watched this one yet. I always seemed like I was getting slightly better mileage with the Ultra Platinum Full Syn, in my 2.7L EcoBoost. I'm sure it's still a very high quality product.

I read months back at the beginning of the conflict with Iran and the only refinery that produced GTL was located in Qatar and was bombed.

We knew this was coming because the base stock would run out eventually and Penz wasn't going to discontinue and selling brand?

To keep the same product name, label, etc but change the fine print (or rather remove the "made from" fine print) does feel dishonest and scammy on their part.

Heck, GM told dealers months ago that Dexos would be in short supply.. The plant that made Dexos was in the hostility area. What matters is the MS # certification by FCA Stellantis.

I run Liquimoly in all of my vehicles (except her Bronco, that gets whatever Ford puts in it but I don't wrench on it). Everything they manufacture is in Germany, well outside the conflict zone. I suppose they likely source raw from Russia, possibly from the US now.

Valvoline restore and protect for 3 changes to clean it good, then mobil 1 advanced clean or Castrol gold for me

All of them will be effected in some way by shortages, but Exxon Mobil and Chevron are best positioned to be the least impacted because they produce all of their own base oils and additives.

Chevron makes Havoline, btw.

Time running Valvoline Restore and Protect for the first of 3 changes, then Mobil 1 Advanced Clean from there until Mobil 1 comes up with something better.

I think they all still work fine for what they are designed to do. Just don't say things too loud when you are near the engine. It may get pissed.
