Is this really a thing? That really takes a lot of value out of those panels for me.
Yes, but as I have said I have seen many on the highway do it.
Could be a wind buffeting issue and/or no place for the wind to exit on a two door with the back half of the roof still on.
My wife being a "by the book" kind of gal, won't take a front panel off if she is going to go on
a road over 80kph/50mph.

I’ve driven highway speeds and greater with them off for many miles with no problem.

Can always buy aftermarket half doors! Or...

Hey JEEP and FCA make half doors for the JT !
i want the dual top dual door option!

Doors off you need to add mirrors. Tons of options that mount to door hinges. Personally don’t like to run on the streets without doors for fear of taking a turn and something flying out the doorway. Half doors fixes both issues. Mount a cheap set of mirrors on the half doors. Take off full doors and put on half doors. Still have mirrors and lower half of doorway is covered. Legally there is a door and mirrors there then. Off road, none needed and it helps to be able to see your left front tire placement as well. Another advantage to half doors... take a look at any wrangler the day after it rains... the lower half of my doors are dirty. No door would be my leg and waist catching all that every time you run through a puddle.

from what ive heard here in aus its got to be pre 1985 or the doors have to be on:(
G'day Ian, I think there was a more recent(is) win...but it is very dependent on state...and oddly I think it had something to do with the seat height....I could probably look up the link when I find some time

As far as freedom tops off top speed. I’ve ran the highway a few times with the tee tops off, and there is some buffeting noise and feel. Usually I put the soft top on for the summer and just take the side and back windows out leaving the soft top in place like a bikini top.

Makes it no point to even buy a Jeep with removable doors if it's illegal in your state. :(

Yes, because don't you know, we as people are too stupid to make decision for ourselves, we need the government to tell us what is safe and not safe which is why they put all those chemicals in our water.
Right, just like the stupid AutoPark feature that FCA is forcing upon everyone. And they've got it buried in the code so deep that even automotive tuners can't figure out how to shut it off.
