Just got a message from one of the stealerships here. Apparently they are having a big sale "this weekend only". $2500 off MSRP for in stock Gladiators. I told them to pound sand. Mostly because I want a manual....and because I am going to take my business to one of the dealerships that have been doing below invoice from the get go.

Interesting. Wonder if that's advertised price, or just banjo minnow ....

With all the downsides of getting a manual, why are you considering it still? Just have to have the shift knob?
In the past week there has been at least 6 posts about the disadvantages of the JT manual implementation and as much as I like manual transmissions I can imagine that I would opt for a manual JT at this point.

This question comes up often on the forum, here is my copy and paste response. Some of you may have seen this before but its something I feel strongly about, so here it is:

Manual
1. more fun
2. nostalgic
3. more fun
4. more in tune with the vehicle
5. no one asks to borrow your truck / anti theft
6. more fun
7. keep the real driving experience alive before we are all being driven by autonomous vehicles
8. more fun
9. better control over ESS

Many posts about how the auto is better for mileage (except that is not true on the highway), towing, and in traffic. In traffic is not an issue as the clutch is second nature to me. I don't tow anything heavy, if I wanted mpgs I would not buy a jeep. There is one performance area that the manual exceeds the auto, admittedly by a very minimal amount and unimportant to most people, however the manual is better at going slow with an 84:1 4x4 low ratio. I don't remember but the auto is 70 something to 1.

Oh did I mention rowing your own is more fun!!!

Best reason ever.
I agree manuals can be more fun. In LA traffic (or any big city for that matter) it gets old quick though.
The other thing that sucks is you lose some of the optional features that I want. But like you said, more fun.
I actually had a manual JK for a bit and really loved it. Cheers

I live here in Oklahoma . I have spotted several gladiators driving around . Dealers have them out front for sale etc.. but I’m well aware they don’t compete with pricing .

absolutely agree....in a 911 or other sportscar. but not this dog.

also, are you sure about the manual getting better mpg on the highway? sure, that was true when autos were 3 speeds....but this has an 8 speed (vs the manual 6). i'm too lazy to look up gear ratios....maybe someone else can chime in. even heavy trucking is converting to automatics across the board for mpg's (not just for drivers that don't know how to shift!)

Not that you were asking for anyone else's opinion, but I just wanted to share mine. Maybe OP is on the same boat as I am, but for me, the thrill of able to control and put the gear in myself trumps any disadvantages there are with manual over automatic. Yes I admit I'm slightly delusional given how much better automatics are. But honestly, and I know I'll get lots of hate for this, if I didn't want a manual transmission, I 100% would have gotten the Ram Rebel since it's almost the same price as a Gladiator Rubicon AND has a V8 with the best interior I've ever seen in a truck. That being said, I thank FCA for keeping the manuals alive, because the Gladiator is definitely the coolest truck out in the wild now!

Yes I am certain about mpgs. The standard six-speed manual transmission Gladiator is rated at 16/23/19 mpg city/highway/combined, while the optional ZF eight-speed automatic version comes in at 17/22/19 mpg.

The loss of MPG on highway with the auto is due to torque converter not being locked/slippage.

I get 19.5 around town and have seen "up to" 24MPG on the freeway with my 6-spd JLR.

Guys, these things have the aerodynamics of a brick through a glass window so I don't expect to average much above 20MPG regardless of the transmission. The good news is if you've had a JK, TJ, YJ in the past then the mileage increase to 20MPG is about a 40% gain in economy, which is pretty awesome. Not to mention the technology and comfort improvements across the board.

I'm sure there will be some hyper-milers out there in Nebraska who will chime in how they are seeing reports of 25MPG on long, straight, 0Âş incline roads with the wind at their back but if you're thinking a 6-spd is going to gain better economy then think again. The 6-spd is for fun.

As to dealers discounting in local markets, one thing to keep in mind, Jeep hasn't even started marketing the JT yet and keeping a $60k "lifestyle" vehicle on the lot is expensive.

Ok I don't understand how your experience and the rest of your post supports this statement. I agree that there are a ton of variables and that each users experience will vary. I agree that EPA estimates from manufactures seem shall we say a bit "hopeful" or best case scenario. What I don't understand is you seem to imply that the stated mpg from Jeep is over inflated more on the m/t than the auto? Again I know there is variance but I don't see them inflating one number over the other. I think the m/t will have better hwy mpg but the a/t will do better in town. Do you disagree with that? If so why?

Obviously mpg is not the main reason we are buying these, but I am trying to understand your statement.

Look on over at the JL forum on the MPG topic. The 8-spd gets better mileage.
