New to the site, first post ever.........looking for some help. My Gladiator build date falls in the date range listed for the V95 driveshaft monoblock issue recall (NHTSA 19V-636). I will be taking a long highway trip over 10+ hours highway each way (only stopping to fill up) and I am very concerned with that long of a drive at highway speed that my driveshaft will seize and cause an accident at Highway speed if my Gladiator is one in the V95 recall. The recall says FCA won't notify existing owners until October 18th if their Gladiator is in the recall. If it wasn’t for my long trip I would be wait until Oct. 18th because I don't drive on the highway hardly ever and only for short distances. So because of the long trip I called FCA US and told rep I feel unsafe driving the long distance not knowing if my Gladiator is part of the recall and asked if they would tell me if my Vin is included (Online VIN search shows nothing because they have not released notifications yet). The FCA representative put me on hold and then came back and said they could not tell me now if my Vin has the recall because they are still investigating and that it’s probably not a big deal (To be fair I don't think FCA Rep really knew what a driveshaft was or the seriousness of the issue). I explained the NHTSA Safety Recall report says a seizure from lack of grease could cause the driveshaft to separate completely from the vehicle and cause a vehicle crash without any prior warning. I told FCA rep that driving 70MPH on the highway and having my driveshaft separate/seize is a big deal to me and a major safety issue. Since the FCA rep cannot tell me if my Gladiator is part of the recall by VIN I asked him since I am part of the Jeep Wave program and it says I get a complimentary loaner car for service/maintenance would FCA please approve a free loaner car only for my upcoming trip since it is a safety issue? I am only asking for the loaner car because FCA cannot tell me if my Gladiator is in the recall and therefore I don’t know if I am driving an unsafe Gladiator or not. The FCA rep said let me see what I can do.. put me on hold and came back and said they would not authorize a loaner car and I had to go get a rental and pay for a it myself or I could drive my Gladiator on the long trip and if it breaks down or Crashes from the driveshaft seizing to call FCA back and then I will get a free loaner car from FCA.... I said O.K. I will do that If I am alive but I will be calling about a lawsuit instead. I told FCA Rep they put a stop sale order on Gladiators not sold with recall issue so they identified them somehow or they took everyone in the date range off the lot because it is so dangerous so why can't they tell me if mine is in the recall or take mine off the road? He had no answer...he just said FCA won't help me until Oct. 18th. I said it's unbelievable the lack of concern for my safety but thanks for trying (he is just a rep its not his fault). So I called NHTSA who said they cannot help me because it is still under investigation and that the FTC is who handles this type of situation. Next I called my dealers service department and the service guy seems really concerned but he said it is a sealed unit so he cannot inspect it and they have no parts so the service guy said he is going to talk to a manger and get back to me ASAP… In the meantime before having to call a large government place like the FTC is there anyone who knows someone at FCA/Jeep that could help with this safety concern? Jeepcares?

Just rent a car for your trip, for peace of mind if nothing else?

Find a dealership you've not been to that's close as possible. "Hey my driveshaft makes a squeezing sound right in the middle of it sometimes. I got a bulletin about a possible driveshaft recall. I figured I better check it out, here is my vin#."
Then smile.
Or go drive the crap out of it before your trip and see if anything happens.
Or rent a car for trip.

Thanks for the replies....Oilburner I will have to rent a car if they cannot tell me my Gladiator is going to be on the recall list and is safe or refuse to give me a loaner. I don't want to know what happens when my drive shaft seizes and/or separates from my car at 70 MPH and even if I don't crash from it and it just breaks then I am still stranded on the highway in the middle of a long road trip ruining everything timewise. I just spent $50K on this new truck, I even planned a drive on the beach with it during the trip and now instead I have to change my plans and pay more money to rent a car for a week because FCA simply won't look up a list which I am sure they have in house or approve a loaner for safety. Beserker556 I would bring it to the dealer but I called and they said there is nothing they can do if I bring it in, no way to inspect and no parts. Still waiting for service guy to call back after he talks to manager, I am a loyal Jeep guy had (3) Wranglers, Grand Cherokee and now the New Gladiator and never had an issue with them or customer service. Just surprised FCA USA/Jeep would not notify anyone with this serious of an issue now and let owners decide if they feel safe to drive if they have a recall truck. If I wasn't taking such a long driving trip I wouldn't really worry about it.

I think you are being over paranoid but that is your cross to bear. While this board is not all encompassing for all current Gladiators on the road, I would think giving the recall suspected defect size of a possible 5%, that someone here would have had a bad carrier bearing rear it's head by now and that I have yet to see.

I get the need to be risk averse, but I can think of a lot more things in life with larger probability to have bad happen than this recall.

Go here and read post #1. Click the link and type your VIN in to see if your Gladiator is one of the ones affected by the recall. If so, make your choice to drive it or rent a car:

https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...in-2020-gladiators-for-bad-driveshafts.21662/

I typed in my VIN the day this thread was posted and found that my Gladiator is one that’s been recalled. I wrote a PM to “JeepCares” and they wrote back that they could not advise me whether or not the vehicle is safe to drive. I decided to keep driving it (locally) and if it breaks (and I don’t die in the process) the repair is on them regardless since it’s under warranty.

Received an email 2 days ago from Jeep notifying me that my Glad is recalled and it instructed me to call my dealer to schedule the repair... called my dealer and this was their reply... “Um we don’t have the parts and don’t know when we will get them. Please call us back after you receive the written recall notice being mailed to you on October 15th”.

My Jeep is on the list. I also called the dealer and they don't have the parts - I guess I am #2 on their list when they do get parts.

I have 8k miles so far, including a 10-hour round trip from PHX to San Diego in August (hot!) and another trip that was ~16 hours round trip from PHX to the Sierra Nevadas just a couple of weeks later (good bit was 110F).

I have a Canyonlands off-road trip (the Maze) planned the end of October. I am hoping the repair happens before then. Else I will have to figure out the risk of a failure on *that* trip. I think I am going :) (I won't be alone and have an InReach communication device).

TYJ & rjs-az wow your replies are super helpful because your saying your Vin#s showed up on the VIN search and you got notified from FCA ...I had already done the VIN check before calling FCA US and it showed nothing and when I called the FCA US rep told me that since they were still investigating and not notifying owners about the recall until October 18th that he couldn't tell me if my Vin# has the recall or not. Said I have to wait until October 18th to find out.

Thanks for the reply Hootbro....I agree with such a small number being recalled I have a low chance of being on the list but I only have 1300 miles on my gladiator and only do short drives now so the problem would likely not have shown up yet, but I must say that my Gladiator transmission/driveshaft is far more clunky sounding then my 2013 wrangler which is what started me thinking I might have the recall issue because some people indicated the clunky sounds are a possible indication that you might have the V95 recall issue. However, other posts just say the clunky sounds are normal for this transmission/driveshaft with a monoblock. My concern wasn't just about a crash, I have a week long driving trip planned and I cannot have it ruined/interrupted with a broken/seized drive shaft 3-4 states away with no parts to fix. Really my issue is that I was sure FCA already has a list and now because of the (2) other replies I got below it appears they do!! The other reply below also says they are also notifying customers directly already which seems a logical thing for FCA to do with a safety issue. Looks like I got bad information from the FCA rep that said that VIN# recall check will not show Gladiators V95 recalls until OCt. 18th because they are still investigating.

Thank you rjs-az very helpful to know your Vin came up on the search and whoever is #1 before you. I was mis-informed that the recall would not show up on the VIN search until Oct. 18th. I hope they fix yours before your trip so you don't have to worry about it.

I've been a little concerned about the recall as well. Checked the site and nothing came back on my VIN, but I'm within the date range.

It may be wishful thinking; but I now have over 3000 miles on mine. As fast as drive shafts turn, I would think that if mine didn't have any lube in it, it probably would've already seized up by now, or at least demonstrated some symptoms, but there are none. No clunks when going into gear, no vibration, no noise.

That said, I have a 500 mile trip coming up, will be getting the first oil change before then, and thought I'd have them check out the drive shaft at that time as well.

Don't mean to downplay the potential issue either. I once dropped a drive shaft at 120 mph, pretty damn scary. I got really lucky, but it could've been much worse.

I got notified by the Uconnect app when my vehicle health report ran that my Jeep is part of the recall. 10,400 miles so far, including towing, no issues. I called the dealership and they said they had no info yet, so no choice but to keep driving it.

Having had a vehicle, Jeep (cj7) as it turns out, toss a driveshaft, I'd say you're EXTREMELY unlikely to have an accident. A tire blowout is much worse (and more likely). Mine didn't just fail, it completely tossed it. It started with a vibration and then a few seconds later a big bang and I lost drive. Never found the driveshaft. Put it in 4wd and drove home.

A buddy of mine had a u-joint fail in his F250. Again, no accident or even close, just lost drive, but it did crack the transmission housing.

I am is the same boat as all of you. I don't have a problem getting a rental, my only question is...would Jeep foot the bill since they are the ones saying the Gladiator is unsafe to drive.

You have an overland. Keep it in auto 4wd. I drove hundreds and hundreds of miles on a Jeep with a dry and cracked driveshaft and nothing happened. That may cause an accident is lawyer speak for we’re hoping it does so we can sue
