Is there a simple way to cause the dash 12 volt outlet to remain not when the truck is turned off? Do not have aux switches. Want to operate "buddy brake" while flat towing the JT.

I was trying to get this done with respect to that 12V outlet up front and/or to the 3-prong plug-in behind my consol.

I got the local Jeep dealer service department to look into it. They said that you could do that easily on JKs and (I think) JLs, by merely moving one fuse to another spot in the fuse box. But they said that the JTs do not allow for that. After some pressing, they said that they could and would do it by somehow wiring it/them directly to the battery, but it would cost around $350. I haven’t taken them up on that generous offer yet.

I asked a local shop (who installed my lift, etc. …) if they could do it. They seemed to think so, but said they strongly advised against it because “it would void your warranty.” I don’t know what that means and does not seem logical. I haven’t followed up with them on it, but may again in he future.

I tried to run my BlueOx Patriot brake system directly off the battery and couldn't. I kept getting a vehicle low battery alert on the BlueOx unit. I went to a service department because the batteries were good. Turned out to be the truck computer and the BlueOx unit not liking each other. I'm not sure how that happens as the BlueOx unit was wired directly to the battery. I called BlueOx and was told several other vehicle brand/models will do the same thing. So I made the connection to my motorhome. No issues.

On my tj the outlet was powered by a relay, jt should be the same. I just opened the relay and soldered a jumper in place

Somebody on here installed their own 12 volt outlet directly into one of the aux switch ports and set that switch to be always on. Might be the easiest option for you if you want to do this.

This news stinks. I just installed my base plates today and doing lights tomorrow in preparation for the first toad road trip with the jtr. I use the blue ox patriot that also requires 12v. That dang JK has me spoiled with the always on 12v In the console. Never dreamed that the jtr didn’t have this.
Guess I need to figure this out soon.

Before I'd pay $350 to wire a 12v outlet hot for just towing I'd hook up to running vehicle power (seven pin connector? ) not kill towed vehicle battery. A plus of having both totally separate of each other electric system.

What's really annoying is I always order my vehicles with the smoker group because that includes an always hot outlet and a cigarette lighter (no, I don't smoke). Except, with the JT all I got was an ashtray that fits into the cup holder. I like the ashtray as a place for small trash, but really miss having that second power outlet.

Mark Doiron I can understand that, mine has "smoker group" package. Only good thing about a cigar lighter outlet is it should be higher amp. rated the "power port in my LJ wasn't rated for more than a cellphone charger and burned out. Lighter and ashtray came out as soon as I got home. But I want a few more 12v outlets for accessories, phone, tablet, flashlight chargers, dashboard camera ECT.. I don't plan on using one of my accessories switch's for it inside cab but in bed I think that it will be.

Ok, upon further review I have 1 usb outlet in the center console, always hot. .
I also have 2 usb outlet just above cup holders in back seat, which is actually part of the center console, always hot.

I plan to use a usb to 12v connector to keep my patriot brake charged while towing.
Tried it out today with an aerator for the bait bucket. All good.

I ended up wiring a 12v outlet into one of the 40a aux switches with the factory wires that are pig-tailed behind glove box. Just keep it in the glove box and turn on when needed.
