Dan,

Thanks for doing the heavy lifting on this. I reached out to Scott to get some cost info and availability as I may need to do something for the longer family trips. I did fabricate a system that I used a few times on the annual family vacation when I used to have my old JKURX. I’ll try to find some old pix, but I’d like to use the base plates from Scott to make something for the Gladiator. I’ll update the costs and availability once I hear back from him.

Couple systems fabbed up for the family trek. The wife, two kids, two dogs, and enough gear for a two week/3000 mile trip.

When you need more room and don’t want to pull the trailer.

Heard back from Scott his evening about the brackets that attach to the trail rail system, unfortunately he says the brackets cannot work with the tonneau. Cost for a set of four is $79.

Thanks for posting this. I don't understand why his brackets won't work with the tonneau cover. Can you explain it? Otherwise I'll reach out to Scott and ask him.

The bracket don’t clear the tonneau cover. On Gladiator, it’s a little bit larger. So if you don’t use cover, it’s ok.

May be if we are some to want it, it’ll make it...

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but for those looking into the Max Modular rack or parts, KBVoodoo has a pretty terrible reputation of cutting corners among the Tacoma community. Pretty much every generation of their previous racks had powder and rust issues so buyer beware.

Boo! That would be the only reason I’d be interested!

I decided to pull the trigger on the ACE Upper Decker with the RTT Mounts. Spent more than I wanted to, but it addressed a few needs I had and provides me more security for locked up items in the bed, something my tonneau cover doesn't provide me now.

Scott tells me that their new bracket fits and works on a Gladiator. He hasn't had access to a Gladiator with a tonneau cover to get the dimensions to ensure it's wide enough to work with the tonneau cover.

If any Gladiator owner has a factory tonneau cover in/near the Salem, OR area please get in touch with Scott.

In the meantime, I will provide him with dimensions needed to ensure his bracket, which he will modify, will work with the tonneau cover and also with his Tower (upper) brackets as shown in my pics (above).

Don't give up - he's working fast and he will make changes to the bracket as he wants it to work with the tonneau cover. I assume it would also work with a variety of flip-type bed covers. The only question then is will the flip panels clear under the combined height of the two brackets. I suspect not but that's TBD.

I wonder if the Max Modular would be able to be connected to the Ace Upper Decker...

Thanks. If you've followed this thread you know that I used the "taller" brackets to allow the factory Tonneau Cover to open completely...

brackets-1-1-jpeg.jpg
where did you get these "taller" brackets/rails? Its exactly what I am looking for so I can roll up my tonneau and put a couple bikes and a cargo rack on top of it. I have the Rugged Ridge Hard rolling Tonneau but looks around the same height as your stock tonneau rolled up.

For those with an Upper Decker from ACE:
Max Modular says that their system would require modification on my end (which I knew) - I'm just not sure how much.

JCR says their system will not work (though again, I think it COULD be modified).

I may just get a Yakima Overhaul HD (adjustable height) and their bars and have my guy custom fab some brackets to marry the towers to the Upper Decker...

Stay tuned...
