We packed up and rolled out of town (Corona hysteria) and went to the woods.
We are going to be boating, hiking and fishing this week!

Us too starting on the 20th. Forget this mess people are jacked, and government is lapping it up.

Sorry, Noob here.
I’m looking to pull a camper over to a campground about 20 miles away. Trailer would be unloaded, no water or anything like that. I have the 8 speed automatic 850RE transmission, 3.73 Axle Ratio.
Used to have a 2005 Ford F150 that I would use once in a while to pull it. Camper and truck belonged to my parents before they past away. Traded truck in when I got the Jeep.
I provided weight info I found online for trailer and also took pic of the door sticker.
Thanks

Do you have a trailer brake controller?

I have read something about a brake controller that is able to be controlled via bluetooth from your phone? Or am I going crazy?

Yes and when you get a phone call just as you are going to make a brake adjustment it gets interrupted. Me personally I wouldn't trust something so critical to wireless.

I am using the Curt Echo brake controller until Mopar comes out with something better. It is easy to install, (no wiring, just plug it in between the truck and the trailer). You use your phone via Bluetooth to set up the braking parameters and it will remember and apply these settings if you lose Bluetooth. The only functionality that you lose when not Bluetooth connected is the ability to manually activate the trailer brakes and adjust them. I like mine!

That is not the way it works. You put your setting into the controller and it remembers and works just like any other brake controller that you would install. The only thing that is controlled wirelessly is setting the gain on the trailer brakes or manual application of the brakes. Even if you do not have your phone or the phone that is paired to the controller it remembers the last setting and operates within those parameters.

I was pulling a 33' 5th wheel and going down a mountain I realized I needed more trailer brake as the trailer was pushing me out on curves. What seemed like adequate braking on the flats wasn't enough in the mountains. Simple turn of the dial on my controller and problem solved. I can't imagine screwing with a touch screen on a phone in that situation. I've had 2 phones spontaneously die.

So if you need to change the gain and your phone is dead, what do you do?

I have never had to change the gain beyond about 1/4 mile into my trip. I know what my setting is loaded and empty and I set it when I take off. I have towed my gooseneck and flatbeds from East Tennessee and North Carolina to Cloudcroft New Mexico and on to a big job we did in Prescott Arizona. If you had to adjust your brake gain mid trip I would argue that it was too low even in the flat land.
