Added subwoofer and amp to my granite rubicon. If anyone is interested in the details lmk. I have a set of focal triple components but I'm going to hold off until the pac issue is resolved or a different option for patch cords becomes available.

I've done a lot different box builds and I'm super impressed with these 6.5 subs they are 4 ohm dvc, I wired them to 1 ohm.

I am using that amp, and I am seriously impressed! That box is a nice piece of work. Fills the space nicely. Bet it sounds great.

How many watts are the subs?

I've never ran a sub smaller than 10", how do they compare to a 10"?

Size is irrelevant - I've had 8s that were louder than 15s. Smaller subs do tend to not hit lower frequencies as well though.

You built the box yourself? I think you’d do well selling them to members on here.... I’d be interested

Sorry for the delay guys

Thanks for the compliments

The subs are dvc 4 ohm 200 watt rms they are wired to 1 ohm the amp is 400 watt rms at 1 ohm

I did build the box I have been doing car audio for 30 years for myself and friends. The box is oversized for the subs airspace by about 20% helps with response and low frequency. The box is sealed but can be ported with right sized port. I listen to a wide range of music so sound quality was more important than sound pressure levels. The box is rhino lined inside and out and sealed with glue, screws and silicon. All the screws are countersunk(?) filled and sanded before finishing. All the wiring is soldered.

Overall I am very happy with the box, subs and amp

In regards to building them for others, I love doing this type of work, I write software for a living so this is a stress release for me.

My concerns would be the following
Shipping this is a solid heavy box I have no idea what that would cost the box is 3/4 inch MDF
Not sure if people want to put up the money for the time it takes to build a finished box like this. I would have to charge more the ground shaker box is selling for.

I guess I'll leave it up to the forum, what would be a fair price for the box without subs or with subs?

well, my problem with the ground shaker is the annoyance of having to relocate the jack and possibly the tool kit. Even with a single 10” or 12” I’d want to hack up that plastic piece to even it up. I can’t imagine I’d be the only one less interested in the ground shakers for those reasons.

But you’re right, shipping would probably be the deal breaker. The ground shakers say they ship free, so for 200-240 total. I’d guess $75-125 to ship a box as you made it, but I could be way off. If you sold yours at $250, that’s $125-175 for your time plus materials. Might not be worth it

I thought that was a really bad idea as well.

Two 6.5 inch subs seem to be the way to go. Mine are 1 ohm as well with about 350 RMS. My gain is at 50 percent and my wife hates it. She wont sit in the car with bass mekanik playing.

Point is, it hits hard with the right box. I am using a small box tuned to 40 hz, its made of birch, packed with poly fill and gives pleny of boom for no room. My writeup is in the thread above here on the main page in the Uconnect, Audio section.

So here's what I am thinking...

Doing individual boxes about 1/3 of the size of the of the original box. That way you could do one or two and if you did two you could use the space between the boxes as an amp location. It would cut the shipping for sure and I think with some poly fill I can get the same sound. Also I can still do the bolt patterns from the original storage tray to bolt the boxes in securely. Not sure if I mentioned in the original post the box is bolted to vehicle using those. Gonna be home for a couple weeks so I probably work on a set this week.

Here's a really bad drawing

Here's a prototype I'm limited on supplies right now with everything going on. Issues that will be resolved on the next one.
Cutout on top will centered
Jeep will bleed into the wood
A little better overall spacing

I will to rhino this before I can sound testing

The speaker is just a test speaker for fit

Max mounting depth is 4 5/8" but for clearance 4.25"

Meant to add the baffle board is maple and has been lacquered and will stay that way the rest of the box will be rhino lined

Forgot to add if I can get slow boat shipping for around $25 I can sell these for $125 a piece sealed or ported.

Also these do not require removal of anything but the storage tray.

Currently cut for a 6 inch but I can fit an 8 inch speaker also.

Gross volume is .40 so net is around .30, but in a sealed setup with polyfill I can replicate about .40-.45. A ported version will be .30 no polyfill with an adjustable port you cut to length for accurate tuning.

If you are cutting a round port for tuning, what is the turning freq?
