I would bring it in to the dealer and have them drive your JT at highway speeds. It sounds to me like your steering box is bad. Putting the Fox Stabilizer on and even the sector shaft brace are just band-aids covering the real problem. I also bought both of those items to install but I brought it to dealer before so they didn't have any excuses about after market parts causing the problem. I still plan on installing those parts to strengthen it and make it tighter if possible. Making the choice to bring it to the dealership was the right thing to do and it paid off because my steering is great now. I wish you the best of luck and hope they do the right thing and fix your steering if you decide to bring it in.
Knowing my local dealer, and us not really getting along for the last 3 years, they will probably be douchebags about my lift and 37’s and claim “that’s the problem”, despite all the mods I’ve done making it better than it was 100% bone-stock.

The thing that bothers me the most is that FCA and these dealers know bad steering boxes are out there yet they give people shit about after market parts causing the issue! I mean own up to your freaking product and fix what is broke no matter what else is installed! I hate that you are having this issue because it is dangerous and shouldn't be happening. Bring it in to them or call them and speak with the service manager about it. Maybe they have dealt with the issue already and will understand? I know its aggravating to deal with dealer services but I would hate to see something happen to you. Its worth a phone call to them at least. If they give you any shit tell then that you have done your research and know there are lawsuits against FCA for this problem.

I was one of the first people to have a steering sector break while driving my 2007 Ram 2500... After they made me pay for the repair, more started getting reported, then it became a recall... Did I get reimbursed my $1,500 repair bill? Hell no! Bunch of jackasses.

Look where it broke (still attached to the hanging drag-link), and how cleanly it broke... You tell me that wasn’t from a bad casting... How should that have been me paying out of pocket for that repair? They’re lucky I built my truck right, and was able to come to a complete stop, and that nobody got hurt or killed.

Did they replace it? Or was it just a recommendation by the tech? They need to change it out and get a new box in there for you. Keep us posted on what happens and how your JT drives.
Yes. They replaced it. It’s been in shop for a week because it was waiting on a new steering box. It came in Sat, was installed Monday, they test drive it this morning, and I picked it up late this morning. The new steering box is why it’s way more sensitive.

I drove it on the highway this afternoon. It’s night and day difference. No play in the steering. It feels tighter than my JKU Rubicon did now and with my Fox steering stabilizer the steering has a nice weight and feel. I’m very pleased.

Holy Shitake! They should have reimbursed you as soon as it became a recall. I think dealers know that people would rather fix some things themselves rather than go through the hassle of the dealer, so they make things difficult on purpose. I was one of those people until my steering got bad enough for me to suck it up and bring it in. It was a huge inconvenience not having my truck for over a week but I did what I had to in order to get it resolved. Now that it is said and done and my steering is fixed I would prolly do it again. Just arm yourself with facts about this steering problem and don't let up on them. They NEED to correct this for you.

I test drove two different Rubicon trim JT's and they both drove like pieces of $hit at hwy speed...required constant input and correction. If it would have been icy outside I would consider it an extreme hazard. Anyway, I custom ordered a Stingray Rubicon even after driving those two and reading all the horror stories. I've driven jeeps before and this is not a 'jeep thing'.

I'm desperately hoping that when mine finally shows up that it will have a decent steering box. The first thing I planned on doing was installing bigger tires and a 2" lift but obviously I don't want to do either of those things if I have steering issues and then have the dealer blaming me....

It is pretty sad when you drive two brand new vehicles and they both have crappy steering. You are absolutely correct in saying that this is not a "Jeep thing". Whoever says that is stupid as far as I am concerned. I hope your JT comes in with no issues at all and hope your steering is fine. I had the Mopar lift installed by my dealer before purchase. I have not put bigger tires yet as I want to wear these 33s down first. I could not justify taking off a perfectly good tire just to get a bigger one, not with two kids in college. What lift were you planning on getting if you don't mind me asking?

I had my JTR in last month for servicing and they agreed the steering was loose - to my pleasant surprise, they immediately said they would replace the steering box. The JL they loaned me for a few days while the repair was being done had NIGHT AND DAY tighter steering.

When I got my JTR back, I initially felt like the steering was better, but nothing like the JL. A few weeks have passed, and the steering definitely has the same loose, drifty feel that I had before the replacement. Very frustrating!! I had previously upgraded my stabilizer to the Teraflex Falcon Nexus EF 2.2, so that certainly isn't the problem. Any suggestions?

I’m just glad that the dealerships are now willingly replacing them with no argument.

Take it right back to the dealer for the same repair. Someone else on this forum went through three new boxes before the fourth fixed the issue. Do not let FCA off the hook.

I am keeping the stock wheels/33"s and using those for my winters. I live in the PNW and we don't get much snow but they like to salt the roads...so the stock tires will still get used. I like the idea of the Mopar lift but I don't want to drop $1500 on it so to start out I'n just going to do a 2" spacer lift by Iron Rock and use the stock Fox shocks etc.

I am very sad for you. I had to go thru 3 bad ones to finally get a good 4th box. Keep pushing them for another one. They (dealerships) dont understand how bad boxes are in the supply chain, even though they know your JT/JL came with a bad one from the factory. You must explain this to them like they are children. Best of luck!

Thanks... this is the first Jeep I've owned, and was beginning to buy into the idea that loose steering is just a "Jeep thing". The tight steering on the JL they loaned me showed how bogus that idea is.
