Guys with the BFG 37 Al terrains, have you ever put a tape measure to them to verify actual height? I recently discovered my 35's are acually 33.75". I want to get the 37x12.50R17 BFG next, but have been curious about their true deimensions. At work, there is a guy with Toyo R/T 37x12.50R17 on 17x8.5's and his tire only measures out 35 5/8" . Not sure if I lucked into measuring two brands that fal short, or if this is a trend for big tires. Not every one walks around with a tape measure on their hip daily like I do.
I know my 37" Kumho's aired with 45 PSI in them, and my Tazer JL Mini recalibrating my ECM to 37.00" tires, I GPS checked my speedometer, and it's less than a 0.5 MPH off. So, I KNOW my Kumho 37x13.50r20 tires are damn-near exactly 37 inches tall, mounted on 10" wide wheels.

Not sure if this helps, and it's not the brand or tires you were asking about, I just thought I'd toss my discovery out there, since it's still relevant to the actual mounted tire height discussion. :like:

Sure will do. I believe they are just a little under 37”s. Mine already have about 12k miles on them so it may not truly represent their original height. They still look fairly new. I can tell you this. They just barely fit in the spare tire well. It takes a couple good hits with a dead blow hammer to get them to sit up there nice and tight.

Thank you, I am a long time Jeep Truck fan. I love the New Gladiators! I am currently buttoning up a Regular Cab, Long Bed Fummins project. I came here because I knew you Jeep guys don't bother with tiny tires, and I was not disappointed!

I had a set of 37 inch BFG AT’s.

They measured 35 inches. Wore like a pencil eraser. And they we awful in the cold wet of Washington and Michigan.

Never again.

Got a set of Falken A/T3W’s - fan for life.
Maybe your jeep or whatever you had them mounted on was not aligned. I have never heard bad things or had a bad experience with any BFG and I'm on my 4th set. Got over 50,000 miles out of my last set.

They were brand new mounted on 17x9's, sitting in the parking lot of the tire shop that put them on. No complaints on ride quality of performance, just that they didn't measure up.

Personally I've never seen a 35" tire that measures 35 or a 37 that measures 37 mounted. Most 35's measure around 33.5 and 37's measure 35 or slightly above. Here is a thread on [Banned Site] that shows the true measurements on some of them

well the link was bad, but I went and googled the subject. BOOM, this is an incredible list of facts!

Thank you for this!

Yeah, I've put a tape on quite a few over the years and I'm yet to find any that are within a inch of true size, meaning a 35 will measure 34 or less, they just round up or what ever. My 315 70 17 BFG KO2S with 33psi measure 33.5 mounted. I could probably get them closer to 34 by added 10 psi but the ride would probably be a lot stiffer in my experience.

To the mods I apologize for posting that link, not a supporter of [Banned Site] by no means just that thread is helpful and I didn't know you couldn't link other forums. Sorry about that.

Have you ever measured a 70” big screen TV? This indicates a class size more than a precise measurement.

I‘ve been doing this for 40 years. Lifelong BFG fanboy. Until I tried a set of Falken’s.

No comparison in the wet, ice or goo. No comparison with tread life or road noise.

No more BFG’s for me.

which Falken tire size and model did you go with? Have you had a chance to measure their actual height?

I can tell you after riding in a Jeep Wrangler with Falken wildpeaks installed that I can't say anything as far as their performance but as far as the sound, the Falkens are definitely louder. I considered a set a few years back until I rode in my buddies with Falkens installed and they aren't loud loud but I could tell they were definitely louder, especially with the windows down, compared to the BFG's. I'm not knocking Falkens though, I've heard good things about them. They are a bit heavier than a BFG as well.
