Brfertig, can you enlighten us on 32 spline helical diff options? (or other adaptations?)

Brfertig - enjoying and appreciate your various explorations and explanations of the "mix n match" options to build up non-stock axle combinations.

Since you are already doing an intense deep dive into the configurations and dimensions of the OE configuration and what parts can be combined in what ways for alternate configurations, I am wondering whether you could shed any light on whether there's any "mix n' match" option known or on the potential horizon to get one of these axles set up for an Eaton TrueTrac helical differential?

Best of all would be if it is possible with the stock 32 spline axle shafts, but I "wouldn't be completely uninterested" in options that might involve swapping axle shafts, if the shaft swap is the only known way to get there...

From what [I think] I understand, the Nissan Titan uses a variant of the current-gen D44 axle and I see that there is an Eaton 913A582 Detroit Truetrac 32 Spline Differential that's identified as being for the Titan.

Appreciate any insights and suggestions that you may be able to offer.

Thanks

The Nissan titan and the new bronco use the advantek d44 m220. The only way to know is buy the diff and test fit it. Its a lot of work but well worth it. I am not a buyer when it comes to limited slip differentials. I would stay open with arbs and let the traction control work as an lsd for me.

The titan has the m226, non advantek I believe, which would make it a generation previous to our axles. ARB has details describing various measurements on the axle internals in their technical literature, which can tell us some things.

RD100 - M186 Front Axle
27 Spline - 30.8mm [1.21”] axle shaft diameter (outside of splines)
10 bolts on 142mm [5.59”]
115.0mm [4.53”] dia. ring gear ID
185mm [7.28”] dia. ring gear OD
All Gear Ratios

RD244 - M200 Rear Axle
29 Spline - 31.5 mm [1.24”] axle shaft diameter (outside of splines)
10 bolts on 145.5mm [5.72”]
121.3mm [5.28”] dia. ring gear ID
200mm [7.87”] dia. ring gear OD
All Gear Ratios

RD245 - M220 Rear Axle
32 Spline - 35.8mm [1.41”] axle shaft diameter (outside of splines)
10 bolts on 157.8mm [6.213”]
134.66mm [5.302”] dia. ring gear ID
220mm [8.661”] dia. ring gear OD
All Gear Ratios

RD246 - Rubicon Front/Rear
35 Spline - 38.1mm [1.50”] axle shaft diameter (outside of splines)
10 bolts on 157.8mm [6.213”]
134.66mm [5.302”] dia. ring gear ID
210mm [8.267”] (Front) 220mm [8.661”] (Rear) dia. ring gear OD
All Gear Ratios
Suits Dana Rubicon
Requires aftermarket 35 spline Axle Shafts not available from ARB

RD 149 - M226
Axle Spline 32 tooth, Ø35.8mm [1.41”]
Ratio Supported All
Ring Gear ID 141.3mm [5.56”]
Ring Gear OD 226mm [8.9”]
Ring Gear Bolts 10 bolts on Ø168.3mm [6.63”]

The splines match, but I don't see being able to machine that much off the ID of the m210/m220 ring gear to slip it onto the m226 truetrac. Square peg round hole situation.

The Nissan titan info i have came right off dana Corps website. They are advantek axles now.

As for a lsd, good point. You would have a great amount of work to machine a housing but when you do that you can compromise the integrity of the case. This weakens areas of it. Says right on the box of my rd245 and rd246, do not machine.

Thank you both, I guess I will wait to see if a helical diff materializes to fit. My experience with a helical diff in an '06 Ram 2500 CTD was that the helical diff gave it a seamless surefootedness (even with 625 lb ft of diesel torque) where there was never even detectable onset of single-side wheelspin, even in challenging conditions like one wheel on a gravel roadway and the other one on wet grass next to the road. My experience with traction control in various vehicles is that spin has to start, and then the traction control starts to react. For winter onroad driving where you can be in different traction conditions second-by-second, I find the surefootedness of the helical diff tremendously confidence-inspiring, by keeping great traction in conditions that aren't bad enough to make it appropriate to engage the transfer case, and in conditions in which the brake-based traction control is not going to respond.

I have been looking for a Truetrac for the same reasons you state. I live in the country. The wind will blow snow drifts across the county highway. You will be driving clean dry pavement one minute and up to your axles the next. Perfect for a TrueTrac.

Helical gear lsd is superior to clutch packs and are very cool. If thats your need go that route for sure.

I have been looking for this info. At least the difference between the Titan (M226) and Gladiator (M220) (MaxTow?). I see the spline count and axle diameter are the same. Perhaps one could take the Titan TrueTrac and Titan gears and put them in a Gladiator housing. Sounds feasible. Now to have some one give up their gladiator axle and find an old titan axle and see if they'll swap. :fingerscrossed:

Little more research, Titan pinion has different spline count than Gladiator. If the U-joint was the same, we could possibly use the titan u-joint yoke also. More research,,,
