I like the ace angle down but I’m looking for more of a step. The Rusty’s and Shrockworks fit that bill. Yes the Shrockworks pictures are awful. I didn’t know what they looked like until I saw another user post pictures.

I found that the McMaster allen bolts have a shorter threaded portion than stock. The lengths of 120 and 220 mm work, except are a bit too long for the front positions; 110 would be better there, or add 0.31" (5/16") in extra washers--one more grade 9 and one extra (there are two extras in the Rock Hard kit) thick washer work. You will get full threads in the welded nut and not bottom out at the end of the threads that way. The video on the broken front body mount bolt shows the extra length of the stock bolt beyond what is needed to go through the welded nut in the body tub.

Rockhard 4x4 Patriot Series Angled Up rock rails installed. Love 'em! Very solid heavy duty construction (100 lbs each), cover the pinch seam, bolt on installation. The hardest part was getting the stock body to frame mounting bolts out, as others have mentioned. Used a butane torch to heat them up, but it was still nerve wracking as a got them to break loose and come out. The worst one of the 3 is the rear, which is twice as long as the other two. Otherwise, total install took me about an hour for each side.

Can you measure from the bottom of your door to the top of the Rock Hard? I'm trying to choose between angled up and down...

This is why I ended up going angled down from Rock Hard. I'm almost certain I'm going JKS 3.5 and 37's and the performance rock rail just didn't give enough drop for the boss of the house to get in. Love the look of them though.

My Ace rails angle up. They work pretty well as a step. I like that they are USA made, frame mounted and work with my factory Rubi rails.

Rock Hard angled up, 4" from top of step tube to bottom of door.

What's the clearance from the bottom of the door to the top of the Ace? I'm trying to figure out what options will work best for the kids to use as a step...

@jimmydarnell I see you have the DV8 rails. Since I have given up on @ROAM I think I will go with the DV8s. I would like to know how much they lower the step-up height; can you tell me the distance from the door sill to the top of the DV8 slider?

Thanks in advance!

The Ace work well as steps. Even with the factory finish, they are not slippery. I may add some traction tape anyway, but not sure. Of course, in AZ we rarely get rain and mud.

As noted above, they have a slight upward cant. This is different from their JK rails which go straight out.

Anyone have the Rusty’s and if so what’s your thoughts on them? Trying to decide between them and Schrockworks. Looks like the Rusty’s step may be a tab wider ? Any advice between the two would be appreciated.

I will give Roam 2 more months before I go with another option. The lead time for several inquired lifts are 1-2 months and I will need a step to go with that. C’mon Roam.

I commented in another post about these, but I put the Mopar Performance Rock Rails on today (OEM 82215606) and am really pleased. Took an hour to swap out the Overland stock rails, no fuss whatsoever. Comes with a zinc sub-coating and a bed liner/textured overspray for long term corrosion resistance, should hold up well against scratches. I like that they also fully hide the pinch seams.

Seems substantial enough to serve as heavy duty rock rails while still providing about 4” of flat surface for a step. You can see from the photos that they extend slightly past the fenders, meaning they’ll provide excellent protection for the fenders as well. Their notes indicate they only fit up to 37’s, but as a friend pointed out, nothing a sawzall wouldn’t resolve if needed.
