Aux Switches - Can A Dealer Install?

Hello All,

New Gladiator owner as of yesterday! The one I drove off the lot had "almost" every option I wanted except the Aux Switch package. Is it possible for a Jeep dealer to install it after the fact? I am hoping the basic wiring already exists and it's only a matter of putting the switch in and connecting....any ideas?

You can install this yourself in an hour or two. Not difficult at all If you take your time. There are videos posted already in this thread. I followed the videos and it was super easy. The hardest part was getting the wire harness pass the firewall on the passenger side. Take your time on the wire harness part not to damage anything.

I did this install 2 weeks ago, so it is still really fresh in my mind. I ordered the part from Bam wholesale. Remember you need to have a tazer or superchips to turn on the feature. Once activated it will send power to the switch and within a few hours or a day the new feature will download and activate on your display screen. If you don’t you can have the dealer turn it on, but it will cost around 100$ to 200$. The investment in your own programmer well worth the money. I used superchips and it has paid off well With all the upgrades I’ve done

Yeah, like @Cadpat7 mentioned, it is somewhat involved. Not insurmountable for the DIY type, just a bit of a pain and one of those things you wished you had found one already installed with it.

Really it’s not that bad at all. Hardest part was getting the harness through the rubber grommet. Everything else was straight forward. Removing the pin from the wire harness I purchased a pin remover for 15$ to make it easy. Everything else is plug and play, numbered and just plugging stuff in.

Anytime you want to know about a dealer add-on, ALWAYS call said dealer and ask them what their hourly shop rate is.

Then you will see why so many people learn to DIY.

Warranty work, they get a fixed amount whether it takes more or less time than the "BOOK" says.
Elective work by a customer, the dealership is going to profit from.

I had my Gladiator at the dealer today to troubleshoot issues with my uConnect display and I asked for a quote to install the Aux switch pkg. $1,150.25 out-the-door which included $375 for the part itself. This seems rather high from what I've read here on the forums. Is this price typical?

I ordered the kit for $289 and installed it myself. There are a few frustrating things to deal with in the install. The wiring was wrong in the instructions, the wiring was hard to pass through the firewall boot, the zipties were difficult to secure.......
I think I needed to buy a set of picks for the wiring but other than that, pretty straight forward. Once done, you'll need the dealer to activate it or you if you have a Tazer Mini you can do it.
If you're going to wire something up to them in the future, you'll probably do the work. So I would say do it yourself. It's a bit of work but not that bad. I have some pics on my build thread but I read over the instructions and followed this video:

My issue with "self install" is I am not as limber as I used to be and I know from past experience with similar projects that I tend to make matters worse by breaking something, etc. So I am willing to pay a "reasonable" fee to have it done and done right. I just believe the $1100 quoted by my local dealer is inflated. The aux switch project is on the backburner for now anyway as I have a more pressing issue with my uConnect display going blank yesterday after it tried to do an OTA software update. It is at the dealership now.

That's crazy how much extra it costs to add after the fact. Mine came factory installed, and they only sticker it as a $295 option.

Well it's good that you're honest with yourself before you get the parts to your front door. I would call around to the Mopar shops and look for a better price......that sounds inflated.

So I messed up the pins when swapping them out... what toolkit / pin remover I’d you use @MGladiator83 / @Gunnuts ? I broke the wire ( and the one next to it) with the metal connector still inside... Need to figure out what to do next... this was a major PITA...

instructions and video were wrong on some of the clip attachments and directions. and the grommet firewall was brutal... I am 6’3”...I can’t fit my hands in those tight places.

Yep same here not as limber and can't contort like I used to plus a bum right arm due to injury and just plain suck at mechanics (LOL). I will tackle certain things. I had the dealer install mine after purchase. The truck did not have them in them and they could not get the truck I wanted in without ordering and after going through all the negotiations, pricing, etc. I had decided I was going to wait so they asked me if there was anything could do to ice the deal so I said install the auxiliary switches. They told me the cost would be about $750 for the switches and the install and they couldn't do that so I said ok then I can wait. They decided to add the switches. I brought the truck back about a week later for the install and they also put on and setup some Rubi take off tires and rims I had purchased at no cost.

I did not have a single issue following the install instructions when I did mine. I had started watching a video but all the pausing was getting annoying, figured I would use the video if I ran into issues but the printed instructions worked for me.

they are correct, but be very careful, and get a proper pin extractor (pusher)... I messed up one of mine, and then tried to pull the wire out the back with pliers (because the metal pin was bent). When I tried to pull it out... my crappy eyesight didn't notice I had a hold of the wire next to it, and when I pulled, both wires broke off.

the video talks about pulling the black cover back... definitely do that, because it will make it easier to pull out the wire and pin...

Edit: The video was wrong about which way the adapters come out (the video was on an 18JL I believe)

On the Gladiator, the door adapter has a tab on the bottom, and the adapter needs to be pulled down when you life the tab.

on the Bus Adapter, the tab is on the bottom, and I used a screwdriver to pry open the tab, then you pull the adapter towards you.

This is 100% a derailment from the thread. You should make a new thread about your question and take all the feedback/comments in there so this thread isn't full of non relevant replies.

Following the written direction, my pins came out no problem. I have a whole bin of various pin extractors and never needed them. I am sure every rig will be different though.
