Anyone know if new units from factory are coming with new box? Mine built 7/20 has aluminum box.
Jeepcares said the 2021s will have the new steering gear. Don't know when that went into effect, if ANY 2020s got them or if it was just a change for the model year.............

Took mine in for an oil change and tire rotation and asked they check. The steering out themselves. I notice some bump steer and about two inches of dead zone at center and at speed a bit of pulling over bumps. Tech drove it and said it was fine. Service advisor drove it himself and agreed it didn't seem quite right. He said he would order the parts and call me with an update. So far, so good. Dick's Country Jeep in Beaverton, OR has taken good care of us so far.

Wow...good catch. Awesome suggestion steffen707!
Stupid dealer! Should have mentioned this to customer.

EVERYBODY CHECK YOUR POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL IF YOU GET THIS DONE!

Would suck to get new box then somehow have it get damaged by lack of fluid.

The pump would suffer first - those don't do well when starved for fluid which is how that are lubricated.
The steering gear would simply be without pressure to assist in steering.
There's a risk of frying the pump.
I wonder if they added fluid but didn't cycle the steering gear multiple times fully left and right to purge the air out?

Today I wore my best button up shirt, drove to the dealer for my "preliminary lookover" with the TSB with highlighted, "if customer describes this, fix it". The guy that checked me in was very nice, they never even drove it, just pulled it in, checked over the truck, updated some PCM thing and said they ordered the parts, should be here FRIDAY.

So glad I didn't have to start the day off nasty. Don't take, "only can order 1 per week", "its a jeep thing" "test drive seems normal" as an answer. You drive a $40-60,000 truck and it should not wander. Ask for manager, contact @JeepCares or go to another dealer. I'd drive 2 hours to a new dealer for my truck to drive like it should!

Good luck to everybody. :like:

You're probably right., but even if its covered under warranty, my time to check it is worth less than my time to drive it back for a new pump.

Absolutely correct.
Takes seconds to check it. Trust but verify............. and I do verify, because I know that hydraulic systems can trap air, or the air not get purged out easily.
I replaced the steering gear on my 82 Eagle and I went through all of the proper procedures and still after a bit of driving had to add a little bit more - not a lot, but it was at the bottom of the "dip stick" on the lid after a drive around the section.

Bought my Rig in December, too busy with Christmas after immediate notice of JT steering after first two-handed, white knuckle drive on major highway with lots of transport trucks...just plain scary.

So, my steering issue fight began January 2nd, and after 13 days without my truck and no success getting anything fixed, even with FCA engagement, I figured I’d wait it out for a recall.

Just left the dealership, heading in thinking this would finally be over...NOT!!
Everything passed on the FCA notice checklist, so they could do nothing...again!

Frustrating is beyond an understatement!
A vehicle this expensive, and my 2003 TJ drove better with a 4” lift and 33” boots.

I am so angry, I’m considering filing a class action suit against FCA, as this issue makes driving extremely dangerous...and the worst part is, I feel half-crazy every time I leave, as there is supposedly nothing wrong!
I have easily over 3 million kms driving experience, and have driven and owned all sorts of vehicles, including jeeps...this is the most frustrating thing I have ever encountered, especially that a manufacturer will not own up to!
drive it Or ship it down to the US and have one of the dealerships here do it.

Crazy thing as I said earlier...the depot for parts for the West Coast of Canada and US up to northern Cal is the same supplier of said parts...That brings a whole new factor in when and where these parts are available. I’m curious now where all the parts depots are. That will affect ordering parts and and explains why there is such a huge discrepancy between those who can get in quickly and those who have longer waits.

I was told my steering gear came from "the depot in Minneapolis" - but they didn't have the bolts like originally thought and those are taking longer to get in.

I believe the parts manager had mentioned Oregon to me in the past for what I mentioned above.

No and I got free new tires too out of the deal, I would be furious if they charged me when my vehicle is only a few weeks old Right off the lot and the 62k Jeep can’t drive straight..... Best of luck
New tires? You're either very scary looking or a hot piece of ass. LOL.

So I brought mine in today for the update. I told them when I made the appt about the TSB, but of course they have to look at it first. I was slightly worried because of the 37s and suspension. They didn't even drive it to test out the steering. They put it on the rack for 10 mins and brought it down. Came and talked to me and told me I had to bring it somewhere else to have it fixed due to aftermarket tie rods and drag link. I told them that's not what I brought it in for. I brought it in for the TSB once again. After 10 mins of going back and forth, typical dealer bullshit always trying to blame it on other parts and me telling them these parts are new and Ive had this issue since day 1, they finally came back and said they had to get corporate approval and they will do the TSB but need to order parts. I told them that what I was asking for all along. So just beware if you have aftermarket steering components, they might give you shit for it.
