New JT Gladiator Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

yeah, the 2" lift and that I took the stock 33 mud tires off and put 37 all terrain tires on it; also, that those two things will "flag" me in their system as having my drivetrain and steering warranty voided.

If you don't get it fixed drive up to Roseville and have Autonation Jeep take care of it I had no hassles but then again I am stock

Just heard back from my dealer, here is their exact quote:

“Chrysler has now put a hold on any part for this steering TSB until December. We are not sure on release date and what they will be doing after that. You are 4th on our list and we will let you know once parts have arrived.”

Maybe a silly question - but why not just "backorder" these and send them out when back in stock instead of putting a hold on orders?
What's the hold for and what's the difference?
Seems to me:
hold means "maybe there will be a revision, in the meantime, don't sell any more of the current number"
while backorder means "we are out and struggling to keep up - we'll let you know when more come out of the oven and are ready to eat".

I concur... this whole thing stinks and the process is highly mismanaged! It’s the ambiguity that is so frustrating.

Just took my 1 year old Sport in for the 1st oil change and clutch recall and told them I wanted the steering fixed (stock suspension). They claims it steers fine and that's how Jeeps are, plus my Rubi MT take offs.

OMG - NOT another "it's a Jeep thing" bunch of BULL CRAP. What's with these people? Where did they get the idea that Jeeps handle funky?

No, it's NOT how Jeeps are. Of course a couple of years of BAD STEERING GEAR may have them thinking that's how they all are - because for a while, that's how they all were!

Why would tires from another JT make any difference - those are FACTORY TIRES supplied by Jeep!
So what - they are on a Sport instead of a Rubicon, big deal. Any Jeep tires should be able to be put on any other Jeep that will take those sizes and still be fine.
I run Rubicon take-offs on my Overland - almost zero difference in how it rides or handles. Yeah, it's a shade better with the original Overland H/T or highway tires, but it's fine.

All I can say is hang in there because it made all of the difference in a comfortable drive once the replaced the steering gears. I can actually drive with one hand now.

Does anybody else's pull to the left a little after the TSB?

In my opinion there isn't really much of a difference before and after. Meaning it just wasn't this dratic change. Yes, it was pretty bad before and now its just slight better with the pull to the left now. I'm gonna have to ask the dealer to take a look at it. I def still have the dead spot on center, but I did notice a slightly stiffer feel to the steering.

Makes me wonder if they replaced it with the right box or something else is wrong. I'd say beforehand, mine wasn't that bad, but is much tighter afterward and I don't really have a pull anymore, just a small deadspot.

I have an overland as well and I am waiting for mine to be fixed. It is bad on the highway and relatively fine on the surface streets (besides a constant pull to the right). Due to an unrelated issue my truck is at the dealer being repaired and I was given a loaner. I didn’t realize how much my driving habits had changed on the interstate due to the steering box until I drove the loaner. I found myself instinctively sawing the steering from side to side like I do in the Gladiator...

How much better is the steering on the highway? Can you drive in a straight line without constant correction?

Yes, straight line no issues now. Also, it just seems more comfortable passing between trucks and things while steering with one hand. It just felt before like I needed to keep 2 hands on the steering wheel to safely pass.

Pretty much my experience here in Austin...

Can’t say much about the general poor service your dealer is providing. That said, as of last week Jeep was only letting the parts Departments order 1 gearbox a month which is down from about a month ago when they could get 1 every 2 weeks.

2021 have the new box already you could be having another issue

I’ve read over inflated tires could cause it. I’m going drop the pressure some and see if that helps.

Many dealers send them out with tire pressures 40 psi or over. Mine were something like 41-42, way over-inflated.

36 is where I run the A/T Rubicon tires I use in winter, 38 is where I run stock Overland H/T tires.
