Who hasn't removed their door bolts yet, and why?

If Toyota would sell the 79 in the US I wouldn't be here but they don't so this is as close as I'll get. The JT wasn't so much that I wanted it so much that it checked as many boxes as possible for me and if the truck was offered with a solid cab and a metal roof, I'd pick that option in a heartbeat.

That said, I do pop off roof panels from time to time but not so much a fan of open air with all the freeway driving I do. My hearing is fucked enough as it is and I'd rather my tinnitus doesn't get any worse.

Here it's so bloody windy so often it takes the fun out of it. The cross-winds will blow glasses right off your face. There are few calm days except in mid-summer when it's in the 90s and so is the humidity.
Had them off for a while, but the wind and extreme sound........ I was literally afraid hearing aids would be blown away.
Roof panels, that's different - we had a t-top camaro and ran with the panels out of that quite often. Those took seconds to remove and put back, 1 lever on each panel, lift out, set in the bag in the back, cinch the straps to hold them in case of very abrupt stop and take off.
That was the main thing for me - roof panels you could take off and put back. With the spiderweb sun shade, though, the panels are a pain in the ass to take off and put back.
If I had half doors, I might take doors off more but panels or panels and roof are plenty. I bought it for the truck aspect and other abilities. Door removal was down on the list. Our climate just sucks for top and doors off very often - especially when you have a forcast of clear weather and then 2 hours later have a record derecho. THANK GOD I had the doors back on and the roof back on and all I had to do was set a record time putting the panels back in FAST then get the hell outta dodge!

Lol I am up to a huge box of bolts and parts that have been removed from the jeep. Door bolts gone. Those door catch things, stuffed into the doors and bolts gone. Soft top bolts replaced with thumb screws. Carpet gone. If the garage door opener wasn't inside the visor those would be gone too, I hate those things.

Why would anyone buy a JK/JT and not take the doors off or the roof?

JK: roof off many times; have dual tops too. Doors have never come off since we're not allowed to here in BC due to the stupid wording of a MVA law that states if the vehicle is manufactured with doors, they must be affixed. Only the CJs and MBs are allowed to go door-less here as doors were options.

When I order the JT one of these days, I'm hoping they will let me order the JL half doors at the same time. (I know the JL half doors are a little lower than the cab and bed rails, but I'm not holding my breath for a JT-specific version). I'm hoping if they are on a build sheet, the will agree to not issue a ticket.

Hmmm - does it specify WHERE they must be "affixed" ?
Can you strap them onto the hood, or in the back, or onto the roll cage? They'd still be affixed, right?

This is a mid-sized truck - maybe you missed that bit. It's why many of us bought these things - nice mid-sized truck with off-road capabilities and the Jeep look and name.
I bought a truck, not a wimpy SUV.

Did you know that most other so-called "SUVs" aren't really - they are 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive station wagons? That's how Iowa is registering most of them now that aren't true SUVs. They are 4 door station wagons. Most can't clear bird crap on the highway and sit lower than my Eagle, most could not go where my Eagle goes, and none could go where this truck goes, unless it's another Jeep or a Bronco or Defender.

I live in Missouri so we will have multiple days of sunny weather during the summer and then all of a sudden rain will pop up without warning. During that season I leave the bolts on because I frequently am putting the doors on and pulling them back off. Come late fall and winter I put them back on when I know the doors will stay on for an extended period.

When taking the doors on and off frequently I think it helps to not put the bolts on because its just less wear and tear. I am pretty bad about not quite lining them up right when I'm in a hurry so just leaving them off is better.

Less risk to the paint, too, when you aren't always using some form of wrench or ratchet in that area. Bad enough lining up those hinge pins and trying hard not to bump something but my luck would be a chip or ding trying to get bolts out or back in.

I haven't removed my doors or top yet. And, I have no plans on doing so just because the internet thinks I should. Unless, of course, some of those people on the internet want to chip in to defray the cost of my new convertible, door-less truck.
