I bought the radio, brand new, from allmoparparts.com (forum sponsor). I had never seen the XM button until I did the "reset ECU" using AlfaOBD.
The XM button normally takes a day or so, and multiple drive/sleep cycles to show up, even when power is pulled from the radio for more than 10 minutes. Travel link is a separate app from the xm button, but you should have some free trial on that too, but you need to enable it in ECUConfig 3 for it to show up in the apps screen.

Yes, details on how too please.
Ask and ye shall receive.

Disclaimer -- this is a step-by-step, and assumes little, if any prior knowledge when it comes to hacking a vehicles through it's OBD port.

First, one needs the tools:
  • AlfaOBD app
  • Android phone or tablet (or Windows device)
  • OBD-II adapter (OBDLink MX+ recommended)
  • Chrysler 12+8 bypass cable

OBDLink MX+ cost $99; Chrysler 12+8 Bypass cable cost $26.99; AlfaOBD app cost $50.

Next, one has to locate the security gateway (SGW) in the Gladiator. It is visible if you are looking upward into the dash where the OBD-II connector beneath the driver-side kicker pannel speaker. In this photo, you can see both the OBD and SGW (SGW is circled).

The OBD-II can be thought of a "READ-ONLY" interface. If one simply wants to view the vehicle settings, the OBD adapter can be plugged here. If you want to *CHANGE* anything, you will need to bypass the SGW.

Here is a better picture of SGW:

The 2 wires that are plugged into that black box will need to be disconnected. They will then be plugged into the Chrysler 12+8 bypass cable (orange cable in photo above). The other end of that cable has an OBD-II port into which the OBD adapter connects. This interface is "READ-WRITE", as the SGW has now been bypassed :)

Next, you will fire-up AlfaOBD on the Android device. The OBDLink MX+ uses Bluetooth to communicate. Pairing bluetooth devices is left as an exercise for the reader.

Please note: screen shots below say "not connected" at the top. Obviously, when you are doing this on your JT, you will want it to say "connected" up there... :)

Once the Android device and OBD adapter are communicating, turn ignition to "Run" (but do not start engine) & launch AlfaOBD:

At the top, use the BlueTooth or WiFi button to connect the app to the OBD adapter. The OBDLink MX+ uses Bluetooth. Then select "Jeep" -> GLADIATOR(JT) -> BODY COMUTER -> MY2020-21 PowerNet.

On this screen, click the "Connect" button at the top -- Then click the "Car With Open Hood" icon in the lower right. This will load the following screen:

At the top, select "Car configuration change" this option is near the bottom of the drop-down. The bottom menu containd *HUNDREDS* of options -- thank goodness there is a search feature. Below, I've searched for "off".

For mine, I selected "VehConfig 5: Off-Road Pages Present", as well as VehConfig 8: Off-road Mode Present". For each, Select value: "Yes", and then press "Start". AlfOBD will show the current value and promt "Are you sure?"

After making the changes, select "Reset ECU":

After you're done, turn the ignition off, unplug the bypass cable & reconnect the SGW.

I plan to use a similar procedure to activate proximity locks once I get the door handles & wiring harnesses that I have ordered :) :) :)

I installed my 8.4 in back in September. Everything except XM worked. I don't subscribe, nor do I listen to XM, therefore I didn't care that it wasn't working. XM button didn't appear until I reset ECU after adding ORP (in November).

That’s a strange one for sure. All the ECU reset does is the same thing as pulling the battery cable for 10 minutes- just takes all the modules offline and restarts them. The developer must have just got the reset ECU feature working in the last update, because it never worked before, and everyone just did a radio fuse pull after making settings changes that had to do with the radio, so that makes things easier now that it seems to be working.

Ah, I don't think I ever did the battery disconnected for >10 minutes reset procedure after the swap. Enough of it "just worked" so I didn't mess with it.

Mike, did you resolve these issues? Did you have any issues with the backup cam?

We have a customer who performed a swap and this feature is inop. I believe that flashing may cure this but wanted some real world feedback first.

Thanks,
- Benny
Sorry I took so long to reply. I gave up with the one I bought from you and took a loss and sold it on EBay. Ended up buying one from nismopar on EBay.

If anyone is reading this old thread- I just did the swap on a 7 to 8.4 on a 2020. Two key things. The green plug the 7 goes to the mustard colored plug on the 8.4. It will update- cycle your vehicle at least 3 times, key out let sit for at least 45 min between and after the third time- let it set key out for at least 3 hours and it will update (it may take overnight).

Call XM and make sure you have the original VIN- on a lot of these they have XM subscriptions prepaid (no kidding its a 300 dollar charge to the owner on the sticker) give them the radio ID and the original VIN and they will give you the remainder of the "trial" subscritption, in my case it has over 4 years left on it- which includes traffic and assistance. No Kidding. good luck! this is about as easy as it gets- but figuring out where to put the Green plug and hoping it worked was very stressful!!!!

I also added a front cam for about 70 (total) bucks at the same time; pretty much plug and play with the Z-Automotive video adaptor ($25 shipped)- but thats another story. BTW the radio model is 68417861AG- from same year as my jeep. Feel free to ask additional questions if you need more info.

from what i've read in other threads the part number you got was probably for another country. the 68417861A[x] is the US part number.

Has anyone had issues with the Nav having no idea where you are? What was the fix?
