Official EcoDiesel Oil and Filter Recommendations

Recommendation: Do NOT rely solely on this list. Always double check to make sure the following oils are current in meeting factory specifications.

The new 3rd gen (2020+) EcoDiesel has different specs than the 2nd generation (2014 - 2019) engine. The following oils have been known to meet the new MS-12991 Certification/Standard/Approval. I put them in order based on what I think are more 'commonly known', not based on preference or performance.

At this time, Royal Purple doesn't have any product that meets specs.

The manufacturer recommendation in Canada is Shell Rotella T6 5w40.
T6 is their highest designated heavy duty diesel oil.

Rotella T6 doesn't meet spec on the 3rd gen engine. T6 is, however, is recommended for the 2014 - 2019 2nd gen engine.

Or possibly Shell just refused to spend the money to show up on the list of approved oils. However, I will re-check with the dealer to see what they are authorized to use on Gen3. Thanks

I personally contacted Shell to verify. They said they do not have an oil that meets the MS-12991 spec nor do they have future plans to meet spec.

You can also look in your owner's manual.

Yes it does. Lots of people are running Amsoil in their third gen EcoDiesel with excellent UOA results.

I didn't keep the email. You will need to call Amsoil if you want verification. Or, you can look up your vehicle. Amsoil recommends 5W-40 EFM on all 2020+ Ram, Wrangler, and Gladiator EcoDiesels. From what I have seen, it has produced excellent UOA results.
