As for catering to the masses, looks like the poll says 12 to 11 currently...
In a poll where most of the people who care to even view this thread are going to respond a certain way. You get a scientific poll and the results are very different.

Let's not forget the most important poll of all. None other matter. "Would you buy this product even if it didn't have X feature?" You voted yes on that, so you may as well have voted no on this poll.

Nah, that's how we end up stuck in the past. It's how we ended up with mobile phone/computers that were covered in buttons, nobody could remember what any of them did, and some would fail from pocket lint in a month. "Choice" was letting people be stupid. Steve Jobs proved choice was bad when he reinvented the entire market with a phone that had two function buttons.
Steve Jobs did not design the Uconnect but if he did it would be able to go offline.

Actually, he'd have been more like Gates - nothing local, EVERYTHING run from the web. No local apps, no need for drive space. Apple stuff is run THEIR way or no way. You like it how it comes, or go buy a PC.

Typing this on a Mac Mini right now. I've been in tech for 35+ years, who wants to have to fix their own shit to get work done. Windows is like a Toyota mechanic driving to work in a Yugo.

If I can go to mopar.com and unlock my Jeep then it's connected to the internet. I don't care what the first hop does.

As for catering to the masses, looks like the poll says most people are in favor of deciding for themselves.
You are part of the problem by spreading misinformation. You can use the internet to have commands sent to your Jeep, but your Jeep is not directly connected to and cannot be controlled from the internet.

A poll is only as good as the question(s) asked. They can be manipulated to provide whatever answer you are looking for.

Manufacturers are in the business of making money. They provide what the largest segments of buyers demand, since that is where the money is. The buyers go for the products with the features they want, and are not so interested in how the results are achieved. What you want will only be included if it is desired by a large enough segment of buyers.

Short version: Not enough people share your opinion for Jeep to care. If you don't like the features provided, buy something else.

You're welcome to define "connected to the internet" however you like but if I can start the engine and unlock the doors on mopar.com then for me it's connected to and can be controlled from the internet.

Not enough people share your opinion for Jeep to care.
Let's find out. According to the poll you're part of a (VERY vocal) minority.

Good lord why is this thread still going?
It's because people are still discussing the topic.

Hate to go on with this but I digress ...

Its not "defining something "however you like" ... It is about defining is "as it is" ....

The reason that this thread lives on is that you have no understanding of how these things actually work and persist with this "the world is flat because I define it that way" mumbo jumbo ...

There have been many gentle pokes to help you to understand the reality of this although you respond each time with the same "Ill define it in my own way response" ...

In the end, please feel free to believe what you want and you can disagree but you would of course be wrong ...

Your jeep is not connected to the big bad internet ... No harm will come to you.

Apparently you work for one of the major polling companies and word your questions to achieve the desired response. Since these aren't actually "connected to the internet" you are leading people who don't know any better into answering your way.

Second - you actually believe a poll in a forum is indicative of the Jeep ownership as a whole? Really? A small percentage of Jeep Gladiator owners live here. That's a small part of the forum membership. You could say there are 20,000 members (just tossing numbers, folks, don't get all "but it's really xxxx" on us) Of those 20,000 members, only about 1/3 IF THAT are active today. Some haven't been seen in months, some came and got their info and haven't returned or life actually got in the way. So you'll be seeing only a handful of active members - members being a small fraction of the total ownership.
If you are aware at all of psychology you'll understand that certain types of people join forums. Normally the most vocal people of certain persuasions. (that's why purely internet-based certain types of polls I won't name here are pure BS).
Only a fraction of the active forum members will even care to look at this thread, let alone respond. If you had 20,000 members, 4,000 ACTIVE members (members who show up at least once a week) you'll have a small handful of that number who will even look at this thread - and of those that do look, most of those are laughing their butts off at all of us!

So you have a small fraction of JT owners here, and that fraction consists of certain types of JT owners to start with, then you ask a leading question and try to tell us that indicates how Jeep owners feel?

I set up network and internet security for 3 major organizations - Principal Financial Group, Compressor Controls Corp., State of Iowa.
I was on the teams that determined policy and rules for all 3 - and was THE final say in one of them.

I'm not concerned.
