The first car I bought with my own money, my 23 year old 1998 VW New Beetle was on it's last legs. Needed a new car. Drove down to my local Auto Row. Saw the Jeep Gladiator and thought that looks like fun. Drove off the lot with a 2021 Gladiator Sport.

As simple as that.

After the events of the past year, I decided that life is too short to drive a practical appliance and save back the expensive bourbon for special occasions that may never materialize.
So, I traded in an immaculate 2017 Subaru Forester (36k miles, 30 mpg, showroom fresh, and boring as Hell) on my Snazzleberry Willys. And I sip a couple of Glen Cairns of Who Hit John every evening after supper while I admire the Jeep and ponder the future.

Life is very fragile. Not to be Mr. Downer Dude, but tomorrow might be your last day on Earth. I was knocking on Death's Door 5 years ago & I now have a new, much more appreciative outlook on life. So, here's my advice to others... If you really want a Gladiator
"AND" you can afford it... BUY IT !!!!

The Overland HA diesel is my 23rd vehicle. 19 of those were new. Also had 4 motorcycles, also new. Only once for about 18 months have I had 2 vehicles at the same time
This one is just a pure pleasure to drive, more than any others I owned, although I really liked the Ram 1500 Limited diesel. But the diesel gladiator is better.

I have never felt the need to justify a vehicle purchase - let’s face it - a vehicle is a not an asset, it is a daily expense with rapid declining value. So I always felt that vehicles are an indulgence, and I have indulged myself mightily over my lifetime so far.
After 50 years of driving with no accidents (including off-road trucks up to 400t )I can, at 66 yo, drive whatever vehicle I choose. (Well, not an Aston Martin or similar). I chose the Gladiator for it’s versatility, utility, user friendly design, performance, drivability, and safety features. Best all around vehicle on the market right now, even in stock configuration IMO.

Had a 2004 wrangler rubicon I had to sell due to divorce, been missing a Jeep. Bought a Subaru Outback in November , and thought it would quell me need for an off-road vehicle, I was mistaken. Traded it in and came home with another Rubicon!

I drive company vehicles, so my wife gets all the new cars. She wants a Jeep and I steered her towards the Gladiator. We should be able to order next month.

Last 30 years I been buying vehicles that accommodate family. Older, kid is grown wife has her new car so I decided it was time for me to get what I always wanted. Now my wife loves my truck and keeps looking at Purple jeeps. I told her trade in your car and get you a purple jeep

Had a 2018 Ram 2500, 6.4 Hemi, 10K suspension, 4x4, tow pkg...the works. Problem was, it rode like a tank (actually a tank likely rode smoother) and it was beating the wife up. That, and gas mileage was about 12 mpg max. Had been looking at the Gladiator's since they came out and wanted to give em a couple years to work the bugs out.
Stopped by the dealer and they had my new toy on the lot with all I wanted and a couple more things. Drove it to the wife's work, showed her, and we bought it the same day.

How I justified my Gladiator;
!) by needing a new truck.
2) I live in the country.
3) My wife wanted it more than me!
4) There's not a four. Reason 3 trumps every reason.

I drove exclusively classic cars for several years. Average 6 month hold, made a few hundred to a few thousand on just about every one (excluding one that was totaled, and breaking my buy rules after the accident). I got in a really bad accident in 2016, and decided I needed some safety features. Modern cars don't play as well, but across the 4 years of new cars (longer on the hold average), I still averaged about +$900/car. Then we had a baby 12/19 (talk about bad timing!), and I decided some thoroughly modern safety features would probably be OK. Since I've had a negative car payment for such a long time, my wife and I agreed that I could have whatever I wanted. Part of the reason for the 6 month hold average was that every time I had a sport car, I wanted a truck and vice versa. The truck is the more utilitarian option, so the DD needs to be a truck. Zero desire for a full size, so it was essentially down to Bison or Gladiator (right as they came out). Bison won, but was a bit of a lemon. It's being sold, and dealers have come down off their high horse on the Gladiators now, so a Gladiator has become the next rolling stock for the stable.

Living in the mountains in Colorado, I've always wanted a Jeep, but I could never quite get over the lack of a bed/payload/towing capacity. I had made it all the way to an FJ40 once, but needed a bed! My wife got a '16 JKUR, and it's pretty decent. When the Gladiator came out, I was thoroughly impressed with what Jeep did in terms of kicking the accountants and lawyers out of the design and engineering departments. It checks all of my DD boxes that can be checked in a single vehicle. I don't care a lick for the convertible aspect of it, but it's capable, fun, the community seems similar to the air cooled VW world, so does the aftermarket. It's got a LOT going for it.

Similarly related to mountain living, unlike 99.9% of buyers, we have occasion to use lockers in daily life in the winter. Sometimes it takes both to get out of the driveway. Not a ton of double locked options on showroom floors with warranties...
