Sorry, nothing to see here. I'm not a keyboard warrior. Just making sure that people are given the other side of the story that flash tunes can absolutely void your powertrain warranty and make you foot the bills on expensive repairs. It's been happening on Cummins for years and no reason to think it won't happen on these. Ecodiesels aren't near as reliable or bulletproof as Cummins so the odds of needing warranty repairs are greater. Everyone here is adults and capable of weighing the odds and making their own decision as to whether or this is something they want to do. I have a BMW that I bought brand new and with 1200 miles on it I tuned it with ECUTEC full well knowing that if it shits the bed I'll foot the bill so I'm not anti tune, I'm anti misinformation. I had a Cruze that I tuned and kept for 8 years as well.

Oh no, this is just fascinating, period.

I have an extensive mod list on 3 of my vehicles, so I can relate, but also depends on the dealer, as with my old Mustang, they told me to unflash it and remind them.

When the charge pipe caused the ac unit to bust, they reconfigured things, fixed it and charged me for it, but otherwise no issues with the warranty

Jeep wants vehicle scan reports and vehicle configuration reports on warranty engine replacements now prior to approval if you open a case. Some are mandatory when you go through the powertrain authorization center. I wonder why?

My friend who is a diesel tech for FCA said they do not look at flashes unless it is requested by STAR, but he said that would be on an extreme rare occasion. I asked what about engine and transmission failures, and he said "no". FCA has approved EcoDiesel engine failures without asking for flash counts. Most engine and transmission failures are due to quality control.

The 2nd gen EcoDiesel has a high failure rate in the 2014 - 2019 trucks due to spun bearings. Those engine failures are almost instantly approved. I've never heard of anyone being denied warranty. There was one guy who was denied warranty from dealership #1 for going over his 10,000 mile oil change interval, but dealership #2 approved it.

There was one guy on the forum who had an engine failure at 102,000 miles (spun bearing) and FCA split the cost with him. So, he got a new engine with warranty installed for $4,500 dollars, which everything thought was a good deal.

To be honest, most people with failed engines are on stock tuning, lol. That's why my two dealers recommend tuning the EcoDiesel engine.

Reminds me of how people needed to tune their Wrx's around '08.

Shame in general it needs a damn tune for longevity, but hey, its also a win/win, as it also provides

My first diesel was a 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD. It's hard to believe that was 16 years ago! We also had a 2006 Ram Cummins. Even going back to 2005/2006, both vehicles had a lot to gain from tuning.

Interestingly, Ram and Jeep have made it easy for aftermarket tuners to write and install tunes. If FCA wanted to, they could lockout the system and make it impossible for tuners, but they don't.

We have decided to keep our 2015 and 2020 Ram trucks for the next 20 years, so that's why I've done everything in my power to improve longevity. I will do the same when we get the Gladiator EcoDiesel.

I agree it's a shame that we have to tune our vehicles, but life is a game. Those who are most successful in life have learned how to play the game. If you plan to keep your vehicle, as I do, the tune will pay for itself. Not only will you recoup the cost in fuel savings, but you'll theoretically reduce the number of engine failures/repairs.

Even outside of warranty, the EcoDiesel is actually a very affordable engine. I can buy the engine today, brand new (crate) for $7,495, and that comes with injectors, turbo, CP4, etc. It's literally a drop-in engine. Compare that to a remanufactured Cummins engine that is $15,730.

There's no such thing as FCA anymore.

You don't need an engine failure to get your vehicle flagged. Just pull up with a weird driveability issue where the tech contacts engineering and the jig is up.

I'm more familiar with BMW tuning than I am these. There's a tuner named Dinan who has been tuning BMW's for decades. They now offer flash tunes but previously only offered piggy backs. When you purchase their product it comes with a warranty. If BMW doesn't repair your powertrain issue due to the tune, Dinan will pick up the tab. I checked the company that you're referring to their warranty page states:

WARNING! THIS IS A HIGH PERFORMANCE PRODUCT. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

and

THE BUYER HEREBY WAIVES ALL LIABILITY CLAIMS.

If these tunes are better for the vehicle and basically harmless what's with the disclaimers?

Correct, however, most people don't know who Stellantis is. After all, the change just happened on January 16th.

I will redirect you to GDE.

Any updates?
I just talked to Keith last week. He said the tune should be approved by the EPA and available by the end of summer.

Is that the Ram tune? Or ALL gen 3?
That would be for all gen 3 engines. There might be a few weeks separating the release of the different tunes, but the timeframe remains the same.

You will have to ask GDE about CARB approval. He said that EPA approval is pretty quick but CARB can take several months before they approve.
