OEM Gladiator Steel Wheels

Hey Dan I know we talked about this last week or so. I tried to order those Mopar winter steels, I love that style. I was indeed told they will not fit the rear brake caliper on the JT. To big of rotor/caliper combo. I ended up doing the sport base steelie for winter and the spare for my summer setup. Photos attached.

Has anyone done A DIY color match on these? I just bought some for my gladiator. I have stingray color and debating on keeping them black or color match... Thoughts?

Haven’t done it but would suggest you find a local body shop supply store and buy “Spray Max 2K” epoxy primer and have them mix and load Sting Gray into the aerosol cans too. This paint has a button on the bottom of the can that you pop to add the hardening agent to the paint right before you spray it.

The can tip produces a nice fan spray and the paint flows out nice and will settle and lay flat with minimal orange peel if you sand prep and degrease the wheel.

You can probably do the job with 1 can primer and 1 can of color but will be cutting it very close…I’d get2 cans each to make sure you have enough material.

When done you will have a body shop level of finish with matched body color paint that is hard and able to take the abuse. About $100 for 4 cans of paint.

P.S. - If you are painting with tire on wheels (don’t recommend this approach) the trick is to get a deck of playing cards and insert cards between tire and rim and wrap rest of tire with drop cloth. And don’t forget the holes in the rim allow overspray to collect on other side of rim giving you a sandy texture on the other side (so tape the holes from the backside and spray one side at a time allowing first side to dry fully).

I will do the rims without wheels. I have different grit sandpaper and already bought the paint, primer, clear and cleaning supplies. I was just curious if anyone has done this yet. I seen people running the steelies but with the oem paint which I think will look horrible after a few months of AZ sun.

What is the offset/backspacing and width of these rims?

I think the width is 7", so far I cannot find any info on the other specs... maybe someone can pull their spare and measure it for us ?

Here you go, totally recommend going body color if you’ve got sting grey. Gives you a little bit of a Defender look

Since we're reviving this old thread, Rotiform makes a steelie looking aluminum wheel. IMO they look great without the added weight of a steel wheel. Rotiform STL.

@RussChave i did mine shortly after asking the question. Got the wheels from BAM and the paint from automotive touch up... Been happy with the results
