Now that you have had your diesel for some time… are you still happy with your decision or do you regret the engine choice?

I know it was a new motor for MY20, but has anyone broken 50k, or even 100k on the new 3rd Gen EcoDiesel engine? Have you had any major issues with the engine/trans/emissions systems?

If you don’t like the diesel engine, which engine did/would you replace it with?

I’m coming up on 5k miles. Zero issues. I’m glad I got it.

I’ve had Jeeps before, but most recently have enjoyed 5 seconds to 60 in my sedan and 6 seconds in the wife’s SUV.

I can’t imagine having a JT with less power.

1750 miles or so on mine, totally happy no regrets with the purchase at all, except for the Mopar sun bonnet, which completely sucks but that’s another topic

The gas engine actually has more power @285 vs 260hp from the diesel. You could experience this in an exaggerated way by taking each up a steep mountain road. The gas engine will beat the diesel up the mountain (admittedly with more exertion though). Or you could just race them on flat ground to top speed.

Horsepower = How quickly work can be done (Torque x RPMs / 5252).

Torque = the overall work that can potentially be done.

Before I get BERATED for being a complete smartass, the diesel will excel for what this vehicle is made for on-road (MPGs) and off the road (torque down low). No one in their right mind would choose the gas over diesel option if a) money wasn’t an issue and b) reliability was equal to the Pentastar.

Almost 20K on our Wrangler diesel, I am waiting for Jeep to offer a color I like then I will be ordering a diesel JT also. Awesome power plant & great mileage. Would I keep one past the warranty? Probably not-

So you'd advocate for an extended warranty? How long? I'm thinking of factoring one in to my budget.

I forget because it's been a while and is ultimately irrelevant to me - but I did see somewhere that California requires them to warranty all of the emissions parts for a really long time (10 years?), but only for California purchasers.

As long as all the emissions stuff was still on there (& not deactivated) I would be leery of owning one w/o warranty, those parts are expensive.

Know the DEF system is not considered a covered emissions part. My extended warranty made the experience with my DEF pump going out on my diesel Grand Cherokee tolerable, but even with the coverage, I never saw the return on investment for diesel.

If you’re waiting on a power train the 6.4L is the one to get or the PHEV.

I’d love to see diesel up against the gas and run them up a mountain; say the Davis dam or I-70 west out of Denver.
I think diesel wouldwin by more than a few lengths.
You’re talking a 25hp difference but what, over 100tq?

I was able to accelerate at will on I-70 in CO.

PS Diesel clocks in 0.3 seconds faster to 60. ;)

I'm curious here... What if you make it to 75k and no issues, would you still keep it?
Or are you one of those, once the warranty expires, you trade it in (no mater what vehicle is it).

Not sure on this one, the “Plan” is to order a new JT maybe this fall, then sell the Wrangler after it comes in. Whether we actually sell the JL or not...LOL
If I continue to have no problems, I might go 100K. Maybe

I will take def over plugging in every night for EV range that would only get me 1/2-way to Walmart. That technology will probably work for many people just not ideal foe me
