Just finished a 1600 mile business/ weekend away trip. I was in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin for business. Then stayed in Wisconsin for a weekend of hiking and I took my mountain bike with me for some rides.

Rails to trails in Madison area of Wisconsin are amazing even on a 29er trail bike. Awesome lakes and small towns. Saturday night after ride, rode bike to small restaurant/winery and sat on patio enjoying a 80* evening overlooking a perfect Central Park.

Sunday afternoon on he way home I stopped at Brown County State Park just outside of Nashville, Indiana. That was an amazing place to trail ride. Greens, blues and blacks to ride. Unfortunately my new almost completely replaced Pike shock that was leaking the day I got it back, blew a seal in left leg after 15 miles of riding. Rock Shock wouldn’t warranty tge Pike even though manufacturers metal shavings were found in the fork. So, everything but lower legs were replaced by a shock builder out west somewhere ( 3 month wait). This company even forgot to put the rebound knob back in when they shipped it back.

Anyway that ended the ride there, but so many nice people and what an awesome park. I will be going back soon.

The Max Tow averaged 20mpg, one tank at 17 mpg after getting stuck in Chicago traffic and accident interstate shut down.

My rack set up and trunk still working really well (besides the fork oil all over it now). Bike spent nights and work days in the hotel.

I have 39,000 miles now and the MT JT runs awesome. Those small tires and 4:10s allow it to really move for a midsized truck.

Everyone that says this truck is slow is running big tires without gear changes (I know big tires look good, but the small tires feel good).

This truck is not slow, the cloth heated seats are awesome and I didn’t once have the need for a 4:1 T-case ? I love driving this truck!

Nice observations, I'll tell you this, I'm on 37's and still don't think it's slow. Compared to my buddies 2015 JKU and my 2010 JKU, this thing is a rocket ship. The 8spd transmission really helps with MPGs. I'm still averaging over 17 mpgs and still haven't regeared.

I bought my Max Tow specifically for the 4.10 gears and wide axles with the intention of 35s. Couldn’t care less about the towing capacity

We put a 1.5” Teraflex leveling kit on ours and went up to a real 33” tire.. my husband didn’t want to mess with any of the towing gears, axles or any of that stuff, but I still wanted it to look tough ?. But I do love it.. looking at making an upgrade to an “S” because I need the powers locks and windows as a safety thing for my kid.
What is a "real 33" tire"?

Agreed. Just placed the order today for a Max Tow to replace my Sport MT. I've been frustrated with the combination of stock gearing, the tall first and reverse, the numb clutch feel, and the higher power band of the engine. It just got worse with the larger tires. Some love it but after a year I've come to realize it just doesn't fit my driving style.

Thanks for the thread and the contributions to it. It was a big factor in finally pulling the trigger on the trade. Eager for it to be built and to drive it.

No...and no offense but stock JTs look like shit. The JTR and JTM are the very base a JT can be and almost look alright. Just barely. My opinion is also swayed by the fact that I offroad my JT so base models look "useless" to me.

I get told all the time “nice truck, but what’s up with the tires? They’re so small”

You can have that stuff added for around $1100. Freedman's quoted me $1100 installed for power windows and door locks.

Too late now, but wouldn't it have been much cheaper to just re-gear your Sport to 4.10 or 4.56?

Yes, did consider that. But that wouldn't fix the clutch feel or engine. Also various life factors made getting an automatic pretty attractive. It was largely a Mojave vs. Max Tow debate that this thread helped decide.

If you don't like the clutch, I guess you just don't like the clutch. Fair enough. But the engine is the same on the max tow, I wouldn't expect that to change much. The way used cars are priced right now, I'm sure you didn't lose much if anything though, so you might as well get what you want.

I have 2 sets of tires for mine. 35x10.5 for riding around and offroad. The stock tires for towing my camper. Works great for me. No lift or other changes. Really enjoy this Jeep.

Best part about the max tow for me is the 17+ mpgs on stock 4.10 gears on 37's. I couldn't get 17 mpgs out of my 2010 JKU on 35's, bear i ever did was 15 in it and 13 on 37's with 3.73 gears. All my miles are basically around town and slight interstate. I'll be taking my first 4hr trip in it Saturday going to the beach.

Mpgs like this

I'll take it.

Oh...?...so the fact is you “ off-road” and need big tires. ? you must be a first time rubicon owner... full of shit.

You don’t need big tires to “off-road” dumb ass.

PS IMOP... no offense.... your Jeep looks like shit. You need bigger tires. Don’t you know newb, that if you own a Rubicon you should have at least 40’s on there? Those pizza cutters your running look ridiculous on a Rubicon. ?

Your 2010 has a 3.8L mini van engine, 3:73’s if not a Rubicon, and if it’s the automatic 5 speed, my Grannies tricycle would out run that thing.

You are correct, the 8 speed makes a huge difference with the 3.6L gas motor.
