You don't mention whether you plan to tow anything or not. You don't mention if you plan larger tires or not.
No plans on towing anything beyond vehicle limits.
No plans on larger tyres unless I find myself needing higher diff clearance.
But I do take your point on the 4.10 which is only available on Rubicon. There isn't a 'Max Tow' option here, unfortunately.

Do you know that OZ Jeep now have new Gladiator option -- NIGHT EAGLE.
Whoa! Good post mate, I hadn't seen that.

It looks like they might be dumping the Sport S and Overland altogether leaving us with just two models. And the new higher payload means the 2021 model might be exempt from Luxury Car Tax here... thanks mate (but also argh, I might have to snap up an Overland)

Better suspension? Really? Keep in mind the Overland is built for comfort. The Rubicon built for the rough - rocks, ravines, articulating.
So please explain how it's upgraded for comfort. Explain how it's "better". It's identical parts except springs and shocks.
I'd take the Overland stock ride over any of the others...... putting Rubicon springs on mine - and shocks, made it a bit harsher over stock.
I look at the Overland as more interior comfort. The Overland lists Heavy-Duty shock absorbers for front and rear while the Rubicon boats Fox 2.0 Performance Shocks on both front and rear.

IMO that Night Eagle option looks pretty good... great payload, 4.10 gears, and it appears to have the same axles as the Rubicon just without lockers.

More of my 2 cents... the 4:1 transfer case in the Rubicon is entirely personal preference and use case in a pickup. If this were about a Wrangler I'd say 4:1 all day long but the 2.7:1 that comes standard is generally fine for the things you'd be doing in a pickup. The only time I find myself wanting for more is steep descents since I don't have as much engine braking anymore with the 8AT.

Really it comes down to "you know if you need it." If you have to ask if you need lockers or a lower transfer case, you likely don't do things that require them. So many Rubicon buyers would be just as well served with an optioned out lower trim.

Have you thought of anniversary edition? It gives lots of the comfort features of the overland, the tech, and can get selec Trac. Not sure if it is available in Australia, but if it is might be worth a look.

Otherwise, all being equal, I would likely go Rubicon just for the lockers.

Not a fan of the Rubi transfer case unless ALL you do is technical rocks. The new auto has such low gears (4.71) that the 4-1 low range isn't much needed.
Throw in some ARBs and a SWAY-loc and it will do everything a Rubi can do.

Unfortunately we only get three two editions here, Night Eagle and Rubi (some Overlands still available)

Today I met a guy who agrees with you. He recently crossed The Simpson Desert in an Overland (68,000 sq miles, 4 days with no water/fuel stops)

Thanks heaps everyone.
Today I ordered an Overland in Gobi, mostly for the transfer case, gearing and comforts that this here latte-sipper has become accustomed to. I'll post a build thread when I get the rig next month.

Oh, shoot! I missed that. The selec-trac is the full-time 4WD one.

Yeah, I'd do that for sure.
I ordered a rubicon with rock-trac that has 4 H auto. Think it was an extra $695, but worth it IMO if you are in a location that has roads that can jump between ice/snow and rain a lot due to elevation. Not sure how the 4 auto aspect on rock-track differs from the selec-trac 4 auto version, and I wonder if compromises the rubicon in any way for rock crawling.

Yeah, if ordering there’s zero reason to skip the 4WD auto. It’s just too cheap and useful to skip.

If I had ordered I’d have for sure done that, and I don’t think it sacrifices any 4LO capability. For me, by the time I was ready to buy, my color choice was already discontinued, so I had to find the closest spec Rubicon in Nacho within a reasonable drive. The one I purchased just happened to omit 4WD auto.

Unfortunately we don't get that combo down here, but yeah 4H Auto was what I wanted. The Mojave's rear locking diff in 4 Hi with Off-Road Plus traction control is a cool combo as well, also not available here.
