All though you need to retrofit the connectors and use some gorilla tape to re secure since it's bigger in size and doesn't snap in. This is an easy fix.
Any special tips on accessing the microphones / trim panel? I really hat breaking little fasteners and hearing rattles after I work on something.

Yes. The plastic pulls down pretty easily. I only pulled down the area between the visor tabs. I did not remove the entire piece. I will post pics with tape marking each area where a clip is. Give me a few minutes

I did not use any trim tools. The blue tape is where the clips are.

. Pull down and towards you. Work from the outer edge towards the mics.

Here are a few pics of the other side of the plastic. Along with new mics installed. Last picture shows the mics. Driver side I left the little piece of foam on. The passenger side I pulled the foam off to get it to sit flush.

I literally made 10 calls and talked to one former coworker for an hr while traveling at 70 mph. No issues. Each person said it was clear and even when there was any noise it was minimal like any other person they talk to on blue tooth. Mission Success ?

I have spent a lot of time researching this. I was going to attempt some sound deadening myself. I’m willing to do the mic swap even. It is just a personality thing with me and trim. I can abide a dirty truck with some character dings, but if I break a trim panel, it will bother me endlessly like a redhead running around with my credit card. It might have looked like the thing to do at the time, but invariably, I should have known better.

Thanks again for blazing this trail.

Just for informational purposes. I have a Best Top Sunrider for hard tops. Nitto Ridge Grappler Tires.

Before I did this mod my blue tooth mic's were useless. I didn't even have my phone paired to the Gladiator because above 50 mph the person on the other end could not hear me due to the static /wind noise/ what ever you want to call it was so loud they could not make out my words.

Now at 55 I am clear at 70 a few people out of 10 calls advised it sounded like a faint wind noise like I cracked my window open. But they could hear me clearly. Above 70 I actually have more wind and road noise in the cabin of the Gladiator its hard for me to hear them.

Here are some pictures of how I used the factory plug and married the two pins. This way there is no splicing of any wires. As you look at the pictures you will see how we cut the factory pins at the crimp. Then we used a small file to take the burs off from the cut. We pushed the factory pin cut off side into the end of the female side of the replacement mic. At the junction put a (little) soder. Once done look at the picture of the factory connector.
We drilled by hand the outer part of the holes so the soder part would push in. (NO power tools) you will notice the pins won't push far enough in to the connector if you don't do this step. DO NOT DRILL ANY THING BUT THE OUTER PART OF THE HOLES. THE PINS LOCK IN THE HOLES YOU RELEASED THEM FROM EARLIER>

Be Gentle. Once the pins are seated your done. Put them in the Gladiator.

This deserves to be a write-up for easy future reference by others. Great details.

I agree. I will try to do it this week. There may even be a better sound canceling mic. I used this one just as a trail and error and it worked. I really don't know much about the mics or the processor in the 8.4 but there is definitely more love given to the Grand Cherokee. I would think the 8.4 is the same just more effort put into the mic testing.

Hi WNCJEEP,
We understand why this may be frustrating. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern if you have not done so already. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

The idea is, there is a fix! Jeep can use the fix to backward engineer a direct replacement part fix.

Has anyone been successful getting a dealership to fix this problem?
