Anybody have thoughts on the best system? Mopar? Builtright?
I've been real happy with JCR. I just got the front and pass side. You can buy them separately. The front will be for misc. stuff and the pass side is usually holding my pull-pal. Right now all I have is a makeshift fishing rod holder for an upcoming trip ;). I've changed things around a bit and it is really not bad at all getting the nuts on the back for a quick fist or whatever.

edit: Just want to point out the JCR goes behind the Mopar trail rail and will work with or without it. I am not currently using the front rail. It 'looks' like the Builtright uses the rail itself. Can it also be used without any rails, as in do the mounts line up with the bed threaded holes?

If I’m starting from scratch would you recommend putting the panels on first? How much drilling do the require?

thanks!

No drilling required. If you have bed liner get a M6x1mm tap and clean the threads out first. The rest is really straight forward. I assembled the panels and snug the mounting tabs so they line up with the holes in the bed then tighten after the rail is bolted up (if you are adding rails) Another nice thing about JCR is the flange nuts they use have knurling so no wrench is required for assembling the panels, just a hex head. I have the Built right Industries set I purchased off another forum member. Love them so far.

I have the front JCR panel. Had to remove a small piece of metal on each side for the Mopar tri-fold tonneau drains; 2 minutes with a cut-off wheel and a quick spray paint touch-up. I have my Max tool and accessories, a shovel, and a tow strap mounted. While the side panels are nice, I found the back of the bed is better suited for me with a couple of 2 x 4s in the slots; creates a perfect place for groceries, small suitcase, or a pizza box!

@49Gramps any pictures of how your tow strap is mounted? I'm working on the best way to mount mine and am yet to find a solution that keeps it secure but still fairly easy to get in and out. Thanks in advance!

I did a test fit of the Motobilt driver side panel and I think this is a winner for me. So long as you're ok with drilling into your bed, it's a beefy one-piece setup and absolutely rock solid. Only downside is it does ship unfinished so spending a little time to clean up a few of the edges before sending it out for powder.

I experienced similar. I bought the Motobilt panel that goes against the front of the bed. Really happy with the shape and form factor of the unit. I did have to spend 30 minutes with a file cleaning up some of the rough edges to prepare for powder. I had also ordered from Northridge 4x4 and the first one showed up bent. They put in a warranty with Motobilt and they sent me one directly from their warehouse. It took over a week to get the second one and that one showed up bent too. Little disappointing but I'm still happy with the product. Just got it back from powder yesterday.

Completely agree on the packaging... mine was shipped in the original box and it was basically the panel with a little bit of packing paper sliding around inside. Could definitely take a lesson from others and splurge on some bubble wrap or something.

This is one of the JCR panels. They don't mess around when it comes to packaging.

You would be better using the holes for the trail rail for some tie down points. This is what I'm getting ready to do. Just get some M6-1 x 25 flanged bolts. You may need washers depending on how big the hole is in the anchors.

Would I use the M6-1 x25 bolts you mentioned to put these on the trail rail system? I have the tie down anchors, but need to figure out which bolts to get, and my JT won’t get here for a bit longer so I’m not sure what the trail rail system really looks like. Does it have a spot to bolt these right on?

i’ll be installing the Rough country panels later today.

Going to by a tap now to clean out the bed liner.
