“So to answer the question bluntly, I love V8s, but I love electrification even more, because it can give me more acceleration, more power, [and] more torque in a better package, without hurting the planet. So I think it’s a better solution longer term,” he concluded.

But he's leaving out some critically important points. What electrification cannot do is allow you to "refill" your truck in 5 minutes on any street corner in America, nor can it travel 500+ miles on a single "fill". And until it can do those things, which are a L O N G way off, it will never go mainstream in this country. If you take away a guy's diesel truck and tell him, "Here is an EV to replace it" he will revolt. People will not go for that in the U.S. Americans are lazy and want convenience and fun. There's nothing convenient or fun about owning an EV.

Furthermore he's leaving out the fact that while driving an EV reduces or eliminates emissions, the factory that builds them is producing more emissions than they used to when they made ICE cars. So in the end, there isn't ANY benefit to the planet. It's a wash. Lithium mining is horrible for the earth, and disposal of batteries is horrible for the earth, and waste from manufacturing facilities of EVs is also horrible for the earth.
We will see how good solar and wind energy can be to generate enough power to power up a EV. Now not very well... in 10 years? Maybe. When will the Greenpeace folk start going after lithium mines and waste?

And about folks revolting? Probably not. You saw how everyone, including me, bent to the government's will and pretty much squashed the most thriving economy in generations. There will be hold outs... but the lamestreet media will vilify them.

They like to keep it under cover what happens to them wind farm blades when they come off (LOL). Its kinda like nuclear waste you just gotta dig a deep deep pit and bury them hoping no one will ever find them

Some environmentalist are going after wind farms up my way in Maine. Them blades are taking out all sorts of birds, bald eagles among them. And we know... the liberal elites, the Kennedy's, are all for wind farms. As long as they can't be seen from their homes.

MidAmerican Energy here has a big display at the fair grounds - they actually say the blades are the only part not recyclable. If you've stood right next to one laying on the ground like they have them here - that makes a big impression on you.

On the other hand, Korea has a crazy amount of their power coming from wind - and are working on wave generated power.
Their wind power 'museum' is amazing.

Funny how certain things that work well in other countries end up failing here........

EV cars are the future. Technology will evolve and they will be more environmentally friendly. Most people do not need to drive 500 miles, or even 300, away from home. by the time ICE engines are gone there will be a system to recharge EVs along the way, and quickly.

We will likely be buying an EV or hybrid in the next year or two and I am excited to see Is the market by then.

Don't get me wrong... I like the thought of EV. But there will be issues with the type of pollution it causes and with procurement of materials. Just as there is with ICE vehicles now.

I love watching drag racing live. What is more fun to see... a EV that can blister the track silently at 350 MPH over 1000 feet, or a 9,000 HP top fuel funny car blistering that 1000 feet at 320 MPH? Top fuel Bitches!!!!

I find it fascinating how some people like to say things like “Your average person doesn’t need this” or “most people don’t need that” be it in reference to cars or bullets or property or (ultimately) freedom…

Wow, you can infer all that from my statement. Fascinating.

while I do have some perspective bias (I think everyone in here can guess at the business I’m in)… i see a future that includes a multitude of renewable energy resources that work cohesively through a modernized network of super capacitors and batteries.

my hope is that before Im gone I can see nuclear fusion reactors providing a good chunk of our energy and coupled with some regional and localized amalgamation of renewable supplies that don’t require us to dig shit up and burn it to live our lives. Whether you believe that has impact on our climate or not clean air + water being better than what we’ve been doing is pretty obvious.

I've said in other threads I'm broadly pro-EV. But the issue with the quoted passage is how often does that have to not be the case to torpedo the appeal of EVs. A single long trip a year could probably be worked around, but what about one per month or per week? After all many of us don't use our bed, or 4WD, or even back seat every day, and yet we still want to have those capabilities on hand for the times we do need them.

As a guy who works in this space, people sometimes say as you lay out above but leave unstated the implied "...and so they shouldn't be permitted to have it" which completes the thought. Not saying Mtpisgah is doing that, but to me that's when things get problematic.

In a world where people feel comfortable giving paternalistic advice but not comfortable trying to get some sort of state actor to enforce their advice on others then the "you don't need X" doesn't bother me as I can safely ignore it. Unfortunately that's not the world we're in... :)

I've been working on major bids for numerous companies like GE, etc and all of it is wind Farm. Most of it is all for the Upper East Coast region. New York is converting 4 Large Port Terminals to become place to handle nothing but Wind Farm Parts and Equipment. Virginia has already done so in Portsmouth it is all controlled by a Norwegian company who will be building the offshore farm. There are major Offshore wind farms that will be going up in both of these regions. Ge is working on some of the largest blades built with some sort of new material. But end result will still be the same when they are taken off after use they will have to be discarded someplace cause they are non degradable and will likely last until all of us are long dead and the dinosaurs are maybe back on the earth. The amount of power they will produce will supply some local city's I suppose. Korea faces many of the same issues you just don't hear about it. They have the same disposal issues, etc. Wave Generated Power sound interesting. There is currently a large number of towers, Nacelles and blades sitting in the Port of Galveston currently awaiting deployment to other regions of the US.

We have that issue in South Texas. I have friends who live down in Corpus and more southernly points and the wind farms are a big environmental issue according to them in regards to they are taking out all the birds. But you have mega money involved and local government and land owners who are getting filthy rich. They could care less about the birds its about the $$$$$. My coworkers cousin is one such family. They are set for life from the money they got as up front to use some of their land for wind farm and the amount they are paid in lease each month or year I forget how it works for them. But she told me the money was insane.
