Man, I am all jealous. I plan to wheel Friday. Mine were "hot ran" according to the shop. Just keep it under 70 for the first 500 miles is what they said.
Yes, there is a break in period for sure.

Weird. I get 16.5 with black rhinos and the same 35. Glad I am gonna re gear.
I'm at 12 MPG's on ridge grappler 35's. I have under 1k miles on my JTM and baby this thing. A regear is in my future.

I run 4.10 gears with37” BFG KO2s with the 8-speed auto. I have zero reason to monkey with a gear change with my running and towing in Texas.

On 37's I had to go to 5.13 gearing for the Max Tow Sport with 4.10's. I did the 2.5" lift the 1st time to, but it was just a body lift, and with no lockers, was weak on the trails with "Stock Articulation", so I dumped the $125 - 2.5" lift for a 4.5" suspension lift, which added that missing Articulation piece to the off road traction needs. Added articulation ='s a better ability to keep the tires on the trail surface, limiting tire spin/loss of traction. I still kept my 34" tires on the stock wheels for when I pull my trailer, and its perfect with the 5.13 gearing, since I never go over 65 mph towing my 3750 lb trailer. But, while on 37's, it idles through the rock gardens (which I'm still not a fan of, or mud). I use my JT for BOH trails, trails, and pulling my trailer to boondock camping locations, as well as the occasional National Park (Glacier N.P. next week, with "Wild Bill" BOH trail as well) My JT is not a daily driver, and never will be. I hate driving it in town for "errands", so I don't. I use a car for town junk.

As you narrow down your intended use for your JT, it will evolve into your desires for driving, thats the cool thing about Jeeps, build it for what you like to use it for. Happy trails, and enjoy getting away from it all!

Good afternoon all. I have a 21 JT Sport S with the 4.10's. I am about to install a 2.5" Lift and 37" Tires on 17x8.5 -6mm wheels. Did I just mess up and should have went with 35's?
You’ll love it. Drive it for a bit to see how it feels before deciding on gears. I went with 3.5” lift and 37 inch KO2s (ya ya, they run a hair small) and it hasn’t been nearly unbearable for me even with 3.73s. It’s my daily driver and I don’t have a heavy foot, but power is not an issue. It keeps speed fine, and it’ll never be fast, but is not as bad as some people make it out to be. Make the decision that is best for you.

The 8 speed tranny masks a lot of this ... It is a great transmission.

This is a math problem nothing more ... Some run 37's on a 3.73 and say that they feel no issue. Some run 37's with a 4.10 and hate it ... It depends who you are, how you drive, and what your tolerance is for driving experience.

The reality is that the transmission adapts but it doesn't mean that it is a good thing to do ... You will be in 6th gear on the highway and sometimes 7th. You wont likely see 8 much ...

I have 4.10 on stock 33's and Mine drops to 7th on any slight incline or headwind Sometimes 6th ...

If you have 8 speeds and seldom or never use 2 of them, you cant really say that all is well ... Well, you can but I wouldn't ....

If ya want the Jeep to perform "close to" design or factory feel, you (MY PERSONAL OPINION) probably dont want much over 35's on a 4.10 rear ... And 33's on a 3.73 rear ... And you are probably looking for more room if you go 37's ...

Just because it doesn't immediately explode into a puff of smoke doesn't mean that the gearing makes sense ... It only means that the Jeep is a robust platform and very tolerant of things people do to it weather of not it is a great idea ...

I'm not that Samrt and I'm not that dumb but this makes sense to me ... Or maybe I'm insane which is possible. In that case, please disregard everything I said ...

I'm running 2.5 inch ready lift on mine with stock wheels and 37s and 4.10 gears and mine does great.

I considered going with 37’s after my 35’s wear out but have since changed my mind on the advice of someone who’s forgotten more than I’ll ever know about such matters. I don’t want to regear or deal with any of the other potential Issues. The 35’s are working out great for me as is. I’m perfectly happy with them.

Can you hold 8th doing 65-70mph?
It depends on conditions, but I’m happy with how it performs. 8th is a second overdrive. I don’t expect it to be held like some others, even at stock wheels and tires.

Yeah thats why I'm trying to gage it I suppose. My stock sport s also down shifts on inclines as did every car I've ever owned lol. It's hard to tell if people just didn't pay attention to the gears before going up in tire size. Under normal highway circumstances is it reasonable expect the tranny to not shift back and forth constantly with 37s?

Hard to say since things can vary, wind, elevation, your steadiness with the throttle. One should expect some gear hunting these days of 8, 9 , 10 speed transmissions.

I run 35 ridge grapplers with a 2.5” lift and get 19.8 on my 50 mile ride to work and 22.2 on my ride up to my cabin going through a bunch of steep hills. I am not a lead foot but I’m usually doing around 75-80ish my entire trip. I used a flash cal to change the tire size and nothing else. Crazy how each beast is different.
