No metal shavings or chunks. Thanks for the reply. So now my big question is, is it safe to go ahead and do the gear change or should I wait on the dealer to switch out the axle?
I would wait until the axle swap. Doing the gear change first and expecting it to be transferred over to the new axle assembly adds a level of complication that does not need to be there.

Still no axle in site from Jeep. So if I do the gear change will it fix my problem? I bought the tazer harness that bypasses the light but I’d like to know what the actual problem is. Does anyone know?

This what you bought from Tazer from their website:

The repair would normally be to replace the sensor, but the part is not available separately. The next best thing would be to replace the locker assembly, but that’s not available either. The current solution is to replace the entire axle assembly, but due to the commonality of this problem, they are on national back-order.

The Z-Locker-OEM solves this problem. Bypassing the problematic sensor, it allows the locker to operate without the position sensor yet provides the proper feedback to the Jeep’s computers to keep the system operational without any errors or warnings. You get fully functioning lockers with no side effects from using the Z-Locker-OEM.

My Mojave had locker light flashing at 90 miles, looking through various threads it seems to go from a light flashing once in a while, to flashing a lot, to staying on, followed by service locker light which others reported disabled rear locker. I took that to heart had no desire to tear out my rear axle and swap in another with same problematic sensor others have had axles replaced twice, bought the Z-wave didn't drive jeep much and installed and have about 8.000 trouble free miles and do use the lockers on the beach and last winter, all the lights on dash work correctly, locker works, I just don't have a sensor that confirms it is locked , but I trust the seat of my pants better for that anyway. My plan is to wait until I can get a new sensor, clean everything out really well and put a aftermarket cover on, or I will just blissfully go through life with the Z adaptor and be happy.
Most important thing is does your locker still lock?........Jack

Just installed the Z adapter and it turned off the locker lights. Tested the lockers and the work. Guess I’ll go ahead and do my gear swap. Thanks to everyone for the replies.

I’m glad it worked out..whew. I think the need for a sensor in the rear to tell me it is locked is like having a sensor to see if your headlights are on, gear it and move on…..Jack

Mine still showed it being locked. But you can obviously fill it being locked as well.

Yes all the dash indicators work, the picture shows it locks, just a bad designed sensor.

my rear sensor took a dump about 4k miles ago under powertrain warranty. When it was replaced i got the rear locker symbol with the x on it i believe. Now I am just getting a blinking rear locker symbol. If it try to lock the rear locker it tells me it is engaged and doesn't blink, and I can tell in the seat its locked. I am going to pull sensor tomorrow and clean it and pot it before it takes a crap.
