Anyone know why the manual says not to use fuel injector/cleaner?

Just curious as to why. What is it about this kind of engine that you don't use that product?

It is a sport s 3.6 if that matters.

My dealer recommended one treatment of Seafoam in the gas every time the oil is changed.

Been using Seafoam for over 20 years with no issues. Never had to have my injectors cleaned in my cars or Harleys.

From the manual-" Indiscriminate use of fuel system cleaning agents should be avoided. Many of these materials intended for gum and varnish removal may contain active solvents or similar ingredients. These can harm fuel system gasket and diaphragm materials." The Indiscriminate part is where most folks may use the products more often than necessary. BG cautioned us not to use system cleaners except at 3-5 thousand mile intervals. Any more frequently and it could lead to thickening of the oil. Chevron Chemical owns the formula patent for injector cleaner. They make it and sell to others who dilute it to stay price competitive. Chevron Techron is the real deal. Works best with around town, short duration driving where the chemicals are allowed to soak and dissolve deposits. Just make sure to reach operating temp. Experts will reply shortly.

I was on the road when I had my last oil change done, and the dealer tried to sell me a fuel injector service ($99) at 15,000 miles. I declined and said I only wanted the wave service.

$99?! Does that include a reacharound?

Can of Seafoam: ~$8
Mechanical aptitude required: zero
Ability to smell dealer bullshit: priceless

The warning is against indiscriminate use or over use. Otherwise, Techron and others made by reputable brands are exactly the same as added to some gasoline brands. Evey 5k or even 7 or 8k won't hurt a thing and will help keep things clean. Even 3k is probably harmless.

But these engines are no more sensitive than any other.

Btw, most auto manufacturers use Chevron gasoline with Techron during their EPA testing and certification process.

So if used as directed, the reputable brands will do no harm and probably do some good. But they are not necessary if you use good Top Tier fuel and maybe even on cheap fuel.

Its likely to dissuade people who might tend to over use these things ... Also, lawyers, because if they recommend that you use them and then there is an issue, people will get stupid and complain/sue etc ...

In any event, as well explained above by many, if you use good gas, its already in there ...

That, plus it isn't necessary anyways ...

If you use crap gas, I doubt that a can of the stuff will help you much anyways ... Use the good stuff ...

I think I used fuel injector cleaner once when I was 16.

I'm 44 now and have never had a clogged injector.

Why would anyone want to use these products? They are worthless.

I'm betting you run pretty good quality gas and hit the go pedal every now and then! :)

Wow, I don't know if I'm more impressed with the fact that you still own the vehicle or that it never clogged. Amazon link to the cleaner? ?
