Regaeared 3.73 to 4.56 with 35s

I have been running 33s on my Gladiator (with a supercharger) and have found it to be ok, I haven't wanted for more, per se. I installed 35s recently and I was surprised at how similarly the Gladiator performed (6.7s 0-60). It's not a race car but 0-60 is a nice comparative metric.

On the highway, I found the typical 6th-7th-8th gear wandering, although probably less than a NA 3.6. I also tow sometimes and thought regearing might help the highway gear wandering and provide more around town getup.

I decided to regear with Dana 4.56 gears, photos are below. After the regear, I was surprised there wasn't more of a difference. However, after putting a couple hundred miles, I am happy I did the swap. The change is very subtle but meaningful. There is hardly any 6th gear and very infrequently 7th gear running on the highway at 70. It only downshifts on inclines or with strong winds (invisible inclines )

Overall, I am happy I did the swap. I think I am seeing better gas mileage but this is a very unscientific assessment considering our widely varying temps (-25 to 30 F) and my widely varying pedal depression. Was it worth it? Yes. Is it life-changing, No. I see this as one of those modifications you appreciate more and more every day.

I am running just over 2k RPMs at 70mph.

Pointers for other DIY'ers... Having the right tools + patience + part organization are all a must. If I had to do this on the ground I would have had someone else do it. I actually tried to find a local shop to install the gears but no one would.

Being your JT is supercharged is probably why there is a lack of a significant performance difference, on a stock engine the difference would probably be bigger.

It’s perception.

The effects from a gear change are not influenced by the motor. It’s downstream and it has the same percentage effect no matter what is in front of it.

I have a basic 3.6 with 35’s and went from 3.73 to 4.56 a year ago this past Tuesday. I remember the first time I put it in gear with the 4.56 and was floored.

that gear was reverse, it was a huge difference from stock to 4.56

if I have a strong headwind at 65+ mph or an incline it will still hang in 7th but the majority of the time it’s in 8th

in a side note, it will go in 8th at 45mph actually

with the 3.73 I spent 98% of my time driving on The highway in 6th.

never saw 8th and saw 7th either going down hill or decelerating.

glad you like them, it’s just a tad lower geared with 35’s as a Rubi would be with stock tires which is what I was wanting. I don’t rock climb.

Did you have to get a different carrier?

No I didn’t. As far as I know everything was stock except for the gears I had installed.

I ended up trading it in Feb 2023 for a rubicon. The Gladiator is still on my Jeep app and I see when it goes in for all services and it’s only been in for oil changes and tire rotations .

It has 70k now.

I run a supercharger as well and did 4.63, I did at the same time change to Dave’s tune, which I suspect is probably a more meaningful impact to the way the truck drives. But I absolutely adore the way it drives now and it was noticeable when I picked it up after dropping it off that morning.
