Yeah... Blackstone UOA is good stuff (not that the third party shop did this), but a warranty is a two way street. You have to maintain some minimum maintenance schedule defined by the warranty.

Also noteworthy is the owners' manual existing ONLY in the infotainment system... It's like they're literally trying to keep people from reading it. What sane individual is going to sit in their car for however many hours it takes to get through however many hundreds of pages? Dumb. I think it was GM that went to digital, but you could still request a print copy free of charge. Not sure if this is the case here, but this is one of the stupider and more anti-consumer maneuvers in recent years.

Also wondering if he checked the oil, or just ran it. Was it allowed to run low? I don't think going 15000 miles once in and of itself would blow the engine up, but low oil would.

The Owner's manual is also online, on the Mopar app, etc. Plus, the truck literally tells you when it's time to get an oil change!

I had a 2019 ram, it had a paper manual and an oil life gauge. This guy is trying to pass the buck on his stupidity honestly.

Is that a Ram thing? My JTRD has a manual.

Obviously he ignored the oil change indicator. No manual outside the infotainment center was one of the guy's excuses in the article I read earlier this morning. Online is very slightly better. For however many tens of thousands of dollars, they can spare a few for however many sheets of paper. The article I read (don't recall the source) didn't make it seem like the guy was trying to blame Ram really; he seemed pretty well resigned to having screwed up. Said he couldn't afford the new engine, and was likely going to scrap the truck. Which is silly on its own since it has more value than scrap even without an engine.

This is a good reminder to document your compliance with required maintenance. Not only do I keep receipts along with my signed/dated records, I also keep any fluid container labels and filter or parts packaging labels. Seems like an overkill, but you never know when you are going to need real proof.

My third party warranty requires oil changes to maintain the warranty.

Same here. I've done UOA in the past, but purely as a monitoring tool. I don't extend the service interval. I do oil changes on modern cars with synthetic oils "on the 5s". Every 5K miles is super easy to remember and keep track of, and is pretty universally aligned with the "heavy duty" (or whatever the manufacturer chooses to call it) maintenance interval. Additionally, the major services also tend to fall on round numbers, so if I have a big one that needs doing, I'll save myself a little trouble and have them change the oil while they're doing everything else.

I also keep every receipt for everything associated with the truck in a big expandable, steel-spined binder (they get thick). That includes oil and filters, but also fuel, washes, etc. Receipts all have the dates on them, but I keep them in chronological order, and clip them together by year. For good measure, I also maintain a duplicate running record in a handwritten moleskine-type notebook. I used to do a lot of classic cars, and I try to be the PO (previous owner) I wish I had.

He ran it longer than that per the article

" 50,000 kilometers [31,068 miles] the oil switch came on and I didn't get an oil change done right away."

The oil "switch" or change notification came on at 31k then motor failed at "engine seized all of the sudden, the odometer was showing 91,000 kilometers (56,544 miles) " 56k.

So he ran it 25 THOUSAND miles (56k-31K) after the change oil light came on, and I'm sure ran it what 7500 miles prior to that? So a total of 32.5+- on one oil change?

Ya he's an idiot.

My thoughts exactly for the safe maintainers.

Then seeing this post.

Stupid hurts.

Claiming ignorance, relying on others without verifying and ignoring vehicle messaging telling him he is due is on him.
