Pennzoil is - but not others.
Other synthetics are still mostly based on extremely refined, or highly refined is a better word, crude base. Shell holds a ton of patents on it so don't look for others to go that direction for a while. Shell makes the Pennzoil brand made from natural gas.

From an oil blog -
Full synthetic, or 100 percent synthetic oils, are usually extracted from crude oil or a byproduct of the same. In the case of Pennzoil, they have figured out how extract synthetic oil from natural gas.

Here's another take on it (since the highly refined crude base synthetics are made from are actually pretty much "built" or synthesized from the ground up anyway) ->

It’s worth noting, however, that many GTL catalysts and processes generate highly paraffinic (waxy) base oils with undesirable characteristics. In fact, residual byproducts of the Fischer-Tropsch/GTL process (the natural gas process) can significantly affect the oil’s pour point and volatility.

Pour point refers to the lowest temperature at which the oil remains fluid. Waxes solidify in the cold, causing the oil to thicken and possibly fail to protect the engine during cold starts, leading to wear.

Volatility refers to the oil’s tendency to evaporate at high temperatures. The more volatile an oil, the more likely it creates harmful engine deposits and contributes to oil consumption, meaning you have to top-off the engine more frequently. (275 degrees for this Pennzoil)

As the results of oil-volatility testing show, Pennzoil Platinum outperformed other conventional and synthetic oils, but it didn’t outperform AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil. This goes to show that oil made from natural gas isn’t naturally better than other oils. The oil’s entire formulation must be considered, including additive quality and the overall

Some of the most important parts of oil are the additive packages.

This type of Pennzoil made from natural gas is great - but in one series of tests came out at 16.
Funny, that’s where I’d last seen it. As pennzoil is approved for the 3.6, I use it until I’m out of warranty.

This is my most surprising post to date. 2021 Gladiator Rubicon Ecodiesel. I have been getting appointments throughout the west in an attempt to get an oil change for a month now. Each time I sit around for an hour while they search databases for nonexistent oil filters. Jeep Cares has been working the case. Yesterday they said that even if I could find a filter, oil simply is not available.

Today Jeep said, not only are there over 8,400 people looking for oil filters, there’s no oil anywhere, oh, and fuel filters aren’t available either. They will tell you that they are on ā€œback orderā€ and they even have ā€œshipping datesā€ but the last two shipments that were said to have oil filters didn’t actually have them.

This is crazy
I just ordered a K&N version from ExtremeTerrain. Will be here in 5-7 days. I use K&N in my trucks.

They flow high - and racers like them, but filtration efficiency is low compared to Wix and others.

Wix -
Efficiency around 95% at 20 microns

K&N -
Efficiency around 85% at 20 microns

My truck has 7k miles on it, took it in for the oil change where they put in the incorrect oil, now i return home and park it in my garage and the jeep is leaking oil. Its all over the axle and driveshaft. To say that I am disappointed and angry is an understatement. I have called and left a message with the service manager...but not reply yet.

Is it leaking? Or is it spilled?

Take the vehicle back immediately. Demand a rental paid by them. Let them know that’s not the way you brought the vehicle to them so it’s not the way you want it back. Make them document the oil used on your new paperwork and to place the resealed containers in the bed of your truck. Make sure they clean ALL of the oil…not just run it through a Carwash.
. Call you when it’s completed.

And do not let them power wash under the hood. The JT and JL have electronics that are frequently damaged after this. There’s a label under the hood saying not to. Many don’t notice it though.

Just a side thought, what implication does this play in warranty ? If I take it in they say they can’t do it cuz they can’t get the parts ?? Seriously do they as the dealers have any responsibility to provide the required services? Can they literally tell you park it until parts for basic maintenance are available? Can they substitute the oil with an non approved oil as long as it’s for a diesel aka ck4 or what have you??
I mean I will be adding the bypass system and doing my own changes anyway but for others that read this, is jeep reasonably responsible to provide said parts and services? I think we should all be fed up with the whole idea that this is still Covid / supply chain related. It’s been 2 years of this and as a society we should have worked through all this by now.

called them again today and they confirmed they would be making it right, and that they would be providing a comparable rental during that time.

it looks to be darker than new, so it could be spilled from the filter? but its way more than i would think that would hold, or its now leaking from somewhere.
