I think I've figured another function of the Jeep push-button start button........
If you have a chip embedded, it reads the chip, decodes it and sends that information to Apple.
There are actually some cars (mostly BMW at this point I believe) that support digital keys in Apple Wallet. If I could leave my key at home and start my Jeep (and my wife's VW) with a "card" in the wallet app on my phone or watch I'd be a happy person. One less thing to carry around, especially when I'm out mountain biking or running. Before someone says "what if your phone dies?" Apple thought of that and the digital keys still work with the battery essentially dead.

Think I found @Jt-wrx 's truck:

This would definitely explain why he wants to go back to a regular key as well. "RFID brick has to go" because he can't get a signal through!
I didn’t think an avalanche could look worse. Wrong again.

i am not reading 25 pages. did anyone actually answer his question? i hate push buttons and if anyone made a kit to remove the button and put a physical key in there i would probably buy it. my parents also have a gladiator and have drove off with the keys in the passengers pocket. the passenger gets dropped off to then leave the driver stranded when they eventually turn the truck off.

I didn't either, but I can tell you there's no good answer to be found here. It's just the way things are now.

My '22 has an option where it will honk/chirp 3 times if it is on and it detects the key leave the vehicle. Super useful and I wonder if it isn't something you can enable on yours.

Our Jeeps have all had "FOB has left the vehicle" warnings on the cluster (as if anyone bothers to read or pay attention to anything like that)
My wife's 2018 Grand Cherokee made annoying sounds every few seconds, not sure on her 2021 - never tried that one. But the message pops up on all of the Jeeps we've had.
I guess most people just never pay attention.
(why would a FOB be in a passenger's pocket?? Does the driver not take charge of that?)

The point is that people claim they want to remove the button and install a key, which is just s rotary switch. The button isn’t the issue the OP was trying to modify. Swapping the switch type won’t change that the replacement switch will still not function without the RFID signal inside the vehicle. So go ahead, replace the button with a key. You’ll be left with the same functionality, just with a different style switch to trigger the starter. So the answer to the original thread is very likely “No, you can’t”.

Ours as old as ‘14 models beeped incessantly if the fob left the running vehicle. It made us give the key to the remaining adult passenger to avoid them getting annoyed. Worked perfectly. Still does to this day.

Well then how about this for a somewhat useful answer: Just lock the RFID key under the backset and install one of these (Ravelco). Carry that key around with you. Problem solved, ish?

That's how the Tesla works, but even better than the Apple way, you never have to touch the phone at all. Just walk close to the car and it's good to go. Walk away and it auto-locks and turns off. Yesterday I lent out the car for a short ride, just "started" it in the Tesla app and they left. I kept my phone. I can also add anyone else's phone or just hand them an RFID card (like a contactless credit card). This is how easy all cars should be.

The OP wants the rfid functionality gone entirely, which isn’t likely realistic. He wouldn’t like it even if the fob didn’t need to be carried. That’s why this thread devolved.

That’s essentially the same as how the Apple method works.

Have you seen it? I saw an early video of it and it required that you manipulate/unlock the phone. Maybe they dropped that? You also have no ability to "remote start" the vehicle, unless the vehicle maker adds that on their own in their own app.
