To cover all of it, the left hand dial controls the door panel lights and the footwell lights. If you don’t have the footwell lights it’s just the door lights. They’re not very bright and you probably wouldn’t want them to be.

I've had other vehicles with ambient lighting, and you could actually see the door handle lights. It's a nice feature if someone riding with you at night isn't familiar with your ride: they don't have to fumble in the dark to find the door handles.

There are door handle lights? Don't recall seeing any. Gotta go check this out. Yep, barely there, but I see 'em. Learn something new about this Jeep every day.

I suppose it is only a matter of time before we get Ambient Zipper Lighting just so we can find willy in the dark.

The ambient lights in my VW’s doors are a bit brighter, but not a lot. I find the door lights in the JT just bright enough to see when it’s actually dark, so o think they do that job just fine.

You could change the colors on the ones in my VW GLI. That was pretty cool

I have been wondering about this as well. I read the manual several times and have not been able to see any change when adjusting this dial.

Nice. Guessing you had a MK7. My MK6 (2013) had ambient lighting, but no colors. My wife’s current Tiguan also has the single color ambient, though I’ve used VCDS to enable color changes as it affects the digital dash coloring.

I finally learned by accident that the dial on the left ONLY works if the dial on the right isn't on the brightest setting.

So you didn't read the posts here? ;)

The light dial on the left is for the foot well lights, and it works in my JT. The one on the right is for the instrument panel. The left one only does something if the Headlights are on AND the other dimmer switch isn't set to maximum brightness.
Or do you mean you discovered that days or weeks or months ago?

I'm not sure if the book says that part or not - I didn't read it in great detail, just enough to get the info I wanted since I don't normally run that other dial at max anyway...

So yes, I read the owners manual and know that the dial on the left is supposed to dim lights below the dash. But, when I turn it I don't see anything in the interior changing. The one on the right dims and brightens everything, including the cup holders. So what am I missing here?

From my experience ('22 sport s) it does your bed lights if you don't have any of the interior lights.

If that dial affects your bed lights then someone has messed with some wiring in your truck.

Best check it out again............

Those two dials are dimmers and not associated with the bed lights. That would require totally different wiring harnesses for each model of Gladiator and make no sense as far as - why would one DIM the bed lights?
