Before Worlld War ii, the same thing could be said about the brave soldiers in World war I. But is it an insult to them that we don't ride horses and that our houses have heat, AC, and indoor plumbing? should we fight wars with swords instead of rifles?

Yep was going to say the same thing. I don't think humvees were ever manual.

I like driving my 6 speed, but it's not an insult to history for you or anyone else likes driving the 8AT.

Well ,when camping don't you use a nylon tent instead of bringing a house?A jeep is meant to be an off road vehicle with the top and doors off.. Electric window motors ,heated seats etc just add weight and help us devolve into a comfort expecting culture. Keeping it simple is the best way to get the feeling of four wheeling and nature..expect wind noise and discomfort...and horses may still be the best choice for serious offroading!.?

I have a manual transmission Mojave. I like to drive, I like a manual transmission. It's a better experience for me, puts a smile on my face rowing through the gears. Hell, I was double clutching yesterday. Why would I double clutch? Because I can. It's a personal thing and I wouldn't be happy with a auto. Automatic transmissions are boring to me, feels like something is missing, oh yeah, it's the fun that's missing. But heck, the great unwashed masses prefer automatic transmissions, just a few oddball manual people left. For me it's not which one is better than the other, it's what I want, what I like, smiles per miles. Two feet and three pedals.

give me your thoughts on the 6 speed mt in the gladiator
Like it. I'd give it 8/10. Kinda rough backing uphill, but you get the hang of it. I've had sports cars with MT and a MT in a truck is just different. Don't try to drive it like a car and you'll be fine.

I’m not having any issues with th 6-speed Manual itself, but I don’t care for the clutch. It’s a bit inconsistent on engagement zone. I’ve only had my Rubicon four months, but comparing it to the other three vehicles we have, all with manual transmissions (two 5-speeds, one 6-speed), there’s no really big issue so far.

We are definitely a manual transmission family. Out of seven total vehicles for four family members, six are manuals…

Most of the people who are going to try to dissuade you are people with automatics justifying their purchase. If you want a manual, none of the "issues" are problematic enough that they should prevent you from getting it. There's a little bit of a learning curve to it. The clutch is a bit on the light side, but you get used to that quick. I agree that gears 4 and up are geared a little too tall (and reverse), but none of these things make me regret my purchase. I found adding a throttle controller to be really helpful with the clutch because when you give just a little gas input, it actually gives it gas. Just do it, otherwise you'll always be second guessing yourself.. and enjoy that extra $2,000 in your pocket while you're rowing your gears.

I really enjoy the manual trans in my Rubicon. It is a remarkable improvement over the manual I had in my 08 JK. I also appreciate my power windows and heated seats. It is possible to have off-road capability and a comfortable driving experience, and I believe Jeep has been doing a good job with the evolution with their vehicles, especially Wranglers and now Gladiator. I do not want to return to the days of my 75 Cherokee with manual transmission, non-power (drum) brakes and steering, and crank windows. I like progress.

Nothing worng with crank windows, if that's your thing either. But I don't think it's an abomination against jeeps to have power windows, locks, and ac. We searched long and hard for our JK. It was tough finding one that was 4 door (JKU), manual transmission, and power windows/locks, and ac. Now we have a unicorn. A 4 door Sahara with fully loaded Sahara (75th) with a manual. I just wish it was a soft top. But the shifter in the JK 6 speed isn't optimal. The JL/JT is a huge improvement.

I've had my 2021 (with 6-speed) since September. Maybe I am biased as the 2005 Wrangler I traded in also had a 6-speed that I loved.

The Gladiator 6-Speed manual is better than the old one. Very happy with it. I suspect my mileage is a bit better with it as well. YMMV.

I’ve owned nothing but manual wranglers (six of them) leading up to my Mojave with a n automatic. I owned a 2018 six speed manual JLR and only had it for six months. I was so disappointed with the gearing, it just ruined the experience. If you are patient and have a good amount of tolerance, go for the manual. I believe the wrangler/gladiator should be a manual, but even when the manufacture has to program the ecu to cut power to save the clutch, I would be worried.

The gearing is honestly, truthfully, no worse than our jku with the 3.21 final drive, both require a lot of downshifts. Neither will climb a mountain in anything higher than 4th gear. If your JK had the 3.73 or 4.1, you may not have noticed it.

I get the recall thing, and I guess I guess it doesn't bother me because it was already done when I got my jeep, and if it's good enough for the NHTSA, it's good enough for me. But in nearly 20000 miles, mine has never actually pulled torque for the clutch. I know there's a message on the dash that warns you to ease off when it does. It shouldn't unless you're slipping it (a lot) or it's starting to go out and slipping on its own. I understand some who tow have issues uphill in reverse, so I'll acknowledge that

I can't say the JTR requires more patience than any other vehicle I've owned. At least not any that could be blamed on the transmission or clutch. Understanding that the clutch is the weakest point though, if it goes out, I'll get an aftermarket one. Overall, I find the experience very good.

Just got my 21 Willys Sport M6, I love this truck! Still getting used to my takeoffs as I sometimes can't hear the rev and conk out.. Embarrassing but oh well! Lifted it and put 39s. I don't see 5th gear anymore.. Lol! But it's not as bad as everyone in this forum said it would be. Re-gearing to 5.13 as soon as the shop can schedule me in. (Only one guy I trust here in Guam to do this) overall, I think once I re-gear and upgrade my exhaust, I'm gonna love my JT even more! I'm old-school when it comes to trucks.. "If it ain't manual, it ain't a truck!" no offense to anyone! ✌?
