Do you guys think it’s a 3.5in lift for a rubicon/Mojave and 5.5in for the stock JT? And curious as why you didn’t go for the mopar lift?

So for your 2nd question…. IMO… because I’m not the OP… there way much more better lift options than the oem mopar lift.

Clayton measures upfront not in the rear and they measure for a Rubicon. They also keep some of the rake and have heavy duty springs expecting heavy builds. That would easily put a sport at around 5.5-6 inches of lift in the rear and about an inch less upfront. The lift should loose about .5 of an inch after it settles but a Clayton 3.5 is much higher than a metal cloak 3.5 for example because of spring rate and measuring style.

It may just be a matter of playing it safe with a MOPAR lift. I was going to get this lift for my gladiator, because of that reason (first time jeep owner), but decided to keep looking because I do see there are many lifts that are better.

Shocks shouldn't add any lift, or do you mean more travel?
The original shocks may have topped eve n with weight on them and limited the amount of down travel.

That would explain the terrible ride much more than better damping would.

I think clayton springs for the diesel are heavy duty made for winch bumpers and armor skidplates and bed racks.

My metal cloak 3.5" lift was a JLU 4.5" front springs with a spacer. Even with my stock sport S I almost got 4" of lift. It rides super plush for a lifted jeep.

I think your lift will hold up better to weight than mine. I would just add a nice winch bumper and it will probably drop an inch.

JTOD. Went with Clayton's Diesel 3.5" Ride Right+, which includes springs but not shocks. I had heard that Clayton tends to understate their lift height a bit, and after install, I did indeed end up with 4"of lift. Keeping the factory shocks, the ride was BRUTAL. So within a week I ordered the Falcon Diesel SP2 3.3 Fast Adjust Piggyback Shocks. The ride is terrific now, but... it added another 2" of lift. So now I'm at 6" of lift. Way more than I was intending. So... couple questions:

1) I've come to understand that a new lift kit will settle a bit over the first few weeks. Any thoughts on how much settling I might expect here?
2) What kind of risk/strain am I looking at in regards to my front drive shaft? I'm not going to wheel it before getting that sorted out, but how long might I continue to daily drive it before it starts to become a gamble?

You made a good decision. Going with Clayton, you will never say -- where is my 3.5 inches ? I have the Clayton 3.5" overland plus lift also. After 1.5 years with a winch, winch bumper, engine skids, and lots of trails, I still have my lift. My buddies with different lifts and some weight are starting to add pucks....

Note: I did change my front drive shaft to Adams, and I put a rockjock carrier bearing spacer in the back for the rear driveshaft.

Get that gladiator on some trails and articulate the suspension some, that will help the springs settle. Clayton has great springs and control arms.

Shocks never add lift height, only way to get more height is with taller springs or spacers, that's it. A shock doesn't have anything to do with the suspension other than making it ride smoother or rougher. I also have never heard of a 3.5" lift coming out to be 6" of lift, that's giving a lot and would require a lot of other suspension components that would not be included in a 3.5 kit. Just saying something isn't right there

He got +4" using the factory shocks. If you've ever removed the bottom bolt of the front shocks, thats about all the extra down travel you're gonna get.

So when he put this big lift on and used those factory shocks they would've been fully extended and restricting the full height of the truck. Which explains the terrible ride quality.

Remove the shocks, add longer ones, the springs can come to full height. That's when he saw the 6.5".

The new shocks didn't add the lift, they allowed the lift to come to full height.

Ok, better explained but 3" of extra lift from a 3.5" lift, most I've ever seen people get was around 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" of extra, beven with Clayton lift kits that would be a tremendous amount of additional lift that would require longer sway bars and control arms

Didn't go with Mopar because the plan is 37s, and not having the higher Rubicon fenders, thought it might be wise to give myself a bit more room than 2".
Went with Clayton because of their reputation for quality and customer service, along with the fact that they are one of the few that have a solution for the diesel. But finally, in these days of "everything's on backorder", they had it ready to ship.

Can you take a picture of your current shocks installed, I would like to see how much shaft is exposed at rest.

don't these lift kits generally quote lift based on Rubicon heights? (+1" over all other models) so if it's 3.5" of lift for a ruby then it's 4.5" for a OL.
