Just for info, why does the tire manufacturer say No WAy BRo on the specs for 12.5s and 7.5" rims?
Think about the extreme - a 15" wide tire on a 6" rim. The sidewall will be at such an angle the bead won't be maintained under any load.

In our litigious society, caution is the determining factor, not the actual likelihood.

I dunno. I have 10s of thousands of miles and zero issues.

Discount tire has zero issues and they have quite a bit of experience.

PS My 35x12.5R17LT Goodyear Duratracs are mountain snow flake rated.

they performed flawlessly today with 2”+ of snow over 1/2” ice.

I had a TJ(8 years)...then a JK(10 years) and now a JT. Always ran slightly "wider than allowed" tires on stock wheels and never once noticed anything remotely seeming unsafe. I plan to put 35/12.5s on the JTR soon. TJ and TJ did require spacers but from what I can tell I wont need spacers on the JTR.

The biggest problem was finding tire shops to install....Discount is the only one that never gave me any issues.

What is the actual tread width? just because the body of the tire is narrower the tread isn't always much different. A narrower tire will give a longer contact patch when aired down, creating more traction. Think about 37's and bigger, they don't get a ton wider, sure some tires are offered in 14, 15 inch widths but how often do you see them wide like that on a trail rig.

I am looking to upgrade to 35s too, but 12.5s are out of spec for the stock rims, which is a no-go for me. I don't want to hand my insurance company a get-out-of-jail-free card in case I ever get into a serious accident.

Went with the 11.5 AT3’s and never looked back. Lighter tire, less chance of rubbing, less “poke” and rock-slinging as a result, better snow performance in the Sierra.

Plus you get more of the classic Jeep look. I prefer it vs the wider tire which seems to be the trend as of late, but that’s a matter of personal preference. Pizza cutters FTW!

Assuming those are the 11.5's in your profile pic? Nice rig and I like the look of the tires, do you have any other pics you wouldn't mind sharing?

I ordered 11.5 in Nitto 35's for my daughters lifted wrangler and we had to switch to 12.5's because her wheel was 10.5 inches wide. They were to small for the wheel. My 9.5s would have been fine

They won’t deny your claim. Read your policy.
Discount tire lists 12.5” wide tires as ok for stock 17” JT rims.

you’ll be fine.

Besides, I can' think of ever having a insurance claims person that was that thorough in investigation.

I’m in insurance, the commercial side, and there are rarely exclusions or limitations for “stupidity”

I’ve seen and paid for sooooooo many “hold ma’beer and watch this” type of things.

The AT3s get a bad rating in rain by Tire Rack. Is that your experience?

I live in Northern Nevada, so we don't get a ton of rain. They've held up well to all the Sierra snow I've thrown at them though! I'll have to check out that Tire Rack review. I took a bit of a chance on these tires and bought them right as they came out, so there wasn't a ton of reviews at the time. So far they've held up to everything I've thrown at them though.

As an aside, if I wanted to get really spendy, I'd go with the BFG KO2's in 34x10.5. But I was quoted almost $400 a tire so I went with the Toyo's instead.
