17 inch vs 18 inch wheels

I am looking to put 35's on my Mojave with stock suspension. Not looking to go any wider than 11.50 so I can run the stock rims. I also have a set of 18" x 8.5" rims I could switch to. Mostly a daily driver with frequent treks on the beach and some mild trails. Tow a 3000lb travel trailer once a month for weekend trips. Should I keep the 17" rims or switch to the 18's? Pros and cons? (I know I don't need the 35's but hey , I like the way they look)

Unless there was a look your after no positive reason to go 18"s. Just $ cost.

I think last time I looked, similar tires for 18" rims vs 17" were more expensive, especially for AT/MT tires. I think since a7" are more popular there is a cost of manufacturing reduction since they sell more. I have no scientific data to back this up, just been my experience.

I mulled that over for months before I bought new 18" wheels and put 34" (285/70) tires on them. Why 34s? 10-15 lbs lighter per tire and availability. Who's going to notice a 1/2" or so of vehicle height?

No real difference or performance difference's, price is basically where the affect will come in.

The only reason in this case would be if the particular tire you want ( load , tread , ect ) was only available in 18" or like others have said the look . For example I run 38s . Not a ton of options . But an interesting one is 38x13.50 yokahama xmt . It's only available in a 18" variety.

Now if you were going more radical , 18" may let run a deeper backspace , while still allowing a drag link flip to clear the wheel. Again probs I am dealing with .

I love going the practical route . However I never seem satisfied. I went 295/70r18 on a build with that thought . After I was like well... And went to a lighter load and weight 325/65r18 . Truck was visually more appealing and actually rode better . Just my experience tho.

Like everyone said, price… I saw an average of about $80 per tire difference. Availability is also better for 17’s.

I went with 18” Motive glock wheels with a +18mm offset. My main reason is I plan on adding 6 piston big brakes , which need 18” wheels to fit. I routinely pull a trailer 4-5000lbs that does not have brakes. And although the Gladiators brakes are very good, they will benefit greatly with the larger calipers. If my trailer had brakes, the stock brakes would be fine.
