If you were REALLY old school, you would do it yourself.
With straight 30w dino oil.
Nondetergent.
:P
That's beyond old-school, that's Fred Flintstone era.
Non-detergent was disappearing even when I was in college.
About all I used it for was in the drip engine oilers. (look THAT one up LOL)

Are you guys doing five wheel rotation? Maybe I should buy a rim. Wish Jeep gave us one stock.

I wouldn't use the freebies. Unless you found a unicorn dealer, they're going to put shit oil in and do a shit job of it. The Gladiator is high enough even fat bastards like me can slide underneath with no lift or ramps. Changes take 15 min tops. Put a quality full synthetic oil in...the correct amount...and use the Mopar or Wix filter.
They have to use an oil that is MOPAR approved. We've always had great luck, no problems, good oil and never ever had any engine issues.
You must be using quick lube places or something.
They do a great job, they check the brakes and other areas, they send a video of their checks and back their work. 5 tire rotation, they fill the fluids (and these days the fluids aren't cheap! Can't use cheap antifreeze in these and the PS fluid is over 20 bucks)

Nope. Don't use "quick lube places or something".

I live in San Diego. Dealers are scum, suck, and are shit. Pretty universal.

LOL - wow, must be bad out there. Nope, they aren't universal. I've had fantastic luck with dealer shops in our area. They use good oil, they do good work (in most cases) and the one I use most of the time goes above and beyond!
They use quality oil and the one single time there was a problem (guy new to JT put in 6) they got my truck right back in - on the spot, delayed all else, and did everything over again - all new oil.

Sorry, universal in San Diego. I've bought Fords, BMWs, Acuras, and now a Jeep. Same experience every time.

I always let the the next owner worry about all the trivial maintenance items such as oil changes. I just enjoy and drive my vehicles about three years or so and then sell it to the next scuker.

 Just kidding.

I couldn't stand seeing that $300 tire under the bed dry-rot, so I found a matching wheel and do 5-tire rotations. Also, if I upgrade to 35's in the future, I guess my 33 spare would have worked in a pinch, but I really want my spare to be the same size so I can just throw it on if needed and keep going. There's a thread somewhere on this and it's about as divisive as some of the oil change threads.

As has been said, there are so many views on the first oil change. I‘m part of the “do the first one early” group. I don’t stick to a hard and fast exact mileage, but do the first oil change between 1,000 and 2,000 miles, depending on what’s going on, then settle in to a longer mileage or a specific time (depends on how much driving occurs).

I use NAPA Platinum filters (made by WIX) and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum oil. Just personal preference.

Make sure to start and stay with same brand of oil and filter. Air Force mechanic stressed that to me over 50 years ago. Dad was a stickler about maintenance.

I will not comment in another oil thread. I will not comment in another oil thread. I will not comment in another oil thread. I will not comment in another oil thread.

Just follow the recommended service schedule in the manual and you'll be good to go!

Damnit. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit.

Did my first at 3500 miles but most of that was towing.

I always buy my filter from the brand manufacture. I don't care what you drive, that's the best practice.
