Here are some firewood notes for you. Wood is heavy and you will likely max out payload before you max out space. You can generally fit 1/3 of a cord of wood neatly stacked in a midsize truck. That’s 1333lbs leaving just enough payload for a driver of the truck. Going to an 8ft bed would technically fit more wood, but you would likely be over the payload and really putting some stress on it.

“An average seasoned cord of hardwood weighs more than 2 tons!! Unstacked it will take up to 200 cubic feet in space. An 8 ft. pick up truck would have to pile the wood uniformly at 5 feet tall to fit an ustacked cord. The average pick up truck can only haul 1/2 a cord of firewood at a time.”
I have the 64 inch bed on my extended cab Ram Laramie 1500 and I can comfortably haul a full FACE cord with the wood slightly stacked above the edge of the bed rail. My truck also has the Ram boxes so my bed is somewhat constrained. As an aside - I also have the air suspension and it is a beautiful thing when full with wood (or anything else) - no sag - hauls like champ!!!

I hope you are correct. I do not really want to go through the hassle of fabing and installing this extension. But if I need to I will definitely take the time to do so.

Right now I stack my trailer very neatly so that I can get as much wood in one trip. I will do the same with the JT.

Makes sense. So you use a bed extender? That would give you more space with very little expense. Also you could tow 3+ tons of wood on a utility trailer!

I would prefer an extended cab/ longer bed, but this is just ridiculous. What if the expense of engineering a 2 door and limited demand made it unprofitable?
Irrelevant! 2015er will continue to demand it in every single thread until it exists dangit!

HAH - YES! Damn right! TextJ209 finally gets it! - At least someone does...

I did the same thing with demanding that Jeep build a pickup truck - I've been harping on this in every forum I have been in since 2005 when the Gladiator concept was shown. Heck I even wrote Mike Manly a letter about building a Jeep pickup...and whoala - a Jeep pickup is about to rol across the stage in LA!!!

Engineering cab variations at this point is easy and relatively inexpensive. Having followed this Jeep pickup topic for years the hard part engineering-wise was making the decision to convert the old section of the Toledo plant for manufacture of the pickup truck. They tried to develop a truck on the chassis of the Wrangler Unlimited and it just would not fit so it required billions of dollars of investment in a dedicated assembly line for a whole new and longer chassis. What made this all possible in my opinion was the popularity and increased sales volume of the Wrangler. They needed a new plant to accommodate the increased production volume for the Wrangler and they built the new assembly line at Toledo for the JL production. That opened up the old Wrangler JK assembly line for retooling for the pickup truck. That retooling started last March when the last JK rolled off the line and it will complete in January so the first pickups can arrive at dealers in April 2019.

So now that the longer chassis has been accommodated I personally feel we're going to see many variations of a Jeep pickup in the coming years - extended cabs, specialized utility beds - heck maybe even the Red Rock, Crew Chief and the FC! With the chassis now engineered fitting alternative bodies to the chassis is wide open.

While I love FCs there's no way in hell anything of that design would ever pass modern crash test standards lol.

Unless...

Let's get nuts, here....

Jeep goes crazy and builds an FC 1 ton. Then the same safety standards don't apply.

Good point! What I am basically trying to say is that - a lot of money has been invested by Jeep in a whole new dedicated assembly line and I don't think they're going to limit themselves to building just one singular crew cab truck. They need to maximize the return on this investment so I think (hope) many varitations will be forthcoming to maximize their return. After all the hard part and costly part of committing to engineering and building this new chassis is over - comparatively speaking developing and offering new and varied cabs and bodies is now easier and relatively inexpensive.

I would love for them to build this! I hope some after market company comes out with a replacement bed like this for the JT.

Or one evolves from the yet-to-be built Grand Wagoneer...
Right, but the joke was to make it class 3 truck, and thus circumvent much of the safety requirements that would make an FC unlikely (like the Bollinger).

Wont happen. They are already trying to beat Ford, & GM in the "top selling" wars. Putting out a full-size Jeep pickup will erode Ram sales and Ram is their other big money maker. They simply will not cannibalize the full-size sales.

Its also why I think they said the JT will be "intentionally expensive" as with the new Dakota coming out that will be focused on the lower end work/fleet market.
