2021 JTR - 5W-30 Oil?

I currently have a noticeable ticking sound once my engine has fully warmed up. I've been hearing and reading an awful lot about changing my oil to 5W30 to help with the ticking sound. I live in Arizona so the year round temperature does not get very cold but I want to hear from everybody out there has anyone used 5W30 or any other weight oil to alleviate this issue?

if i hear a ticking, it's going to the shop to get checked out. early catch and they can just repair whatever rocker lost it's coating and is grinding your cam.

Any heavier grade oil that may reduce the ticking is just masking a problem that is already there and is not going to get better.

Thicker oil may mask the sound but if it's due to damage, the damage is done.
There's also been posts about people who have stepped up still ending up with the cam/follower damage.
There's also a TSB about a tick being due to lash adjusters.
Don't toss stuff at it based off internet posts, get it checked out.

(you are really only interested in the back number - the 20 vs. 30, and there's a lot of range in either, they sort of cross-over, so it's not a huge step. The 0 vs the 5 is the front number, the winter, or cold number, won't matter much for you but if your area never gets below 40 or so. at night, the 5 will actually be fine/good)

I’ve had my first two complimentary Jeep Cares oil changes within the 10,000 miles so far, 4,000 for the first at 50% oil life, then 4,500 for the second at 45% oil life. At the dealer I bought my JT at. With the full synthetic 0w20 and filter they use. But from now on, especially in Central Florida where it’s at least 70-98 degrees most of the time, with a few mornings at 40-50, I’ll be using 5w30 for spring time change, then depending how the weather looks the same in the fall, both within 5,000 miles each. Using M1 ESP Moly Euro spec oil used everywhere else but here in the U.S. Under the strictest Chrysler Oil Standards.

The injectors create a substantial (IMO) ticking noise and it will be completely different than the "clacking" of lifter failure and camshaft destruction.

Ticking at idle (standing OUTSIDE at the engine bay) is "normal" during/after warm-up.

Loud ticking (clacking) under acceleration from 2,000-3,500 rpm from INSIDE the cab is cam failure.

Not going to counsel you on the oil question as there's plenty of threads already out there for that. All I can tell you is that "ticking" from injectors is very different from "clacking" of rockers on camshaft. For me, the camshaft failure clacking was 100% heard from INSIDE the vehicle and was an unmistakable sound.

That is good to know because the only taking that I can hear is when the hood is up I cannot hear any ticking noises in the side of the cab even after engine warm up.

If you think you have a problem, get it checked out.

Don't just try to cover it up with a heavier weight oil. It won't fix the problem, just quiet it down.

Been running 5w-30 in my 2020 since early 2020 and 50k miles in Pennsylvania with no issues. Doubt it fixes anything - it’s an acceptable viscosity.

Where is the tick coming from? I have a very light knock from the bottom end that goes away once warmed up. Not quite light enough to call it a tick, but not quite a knock.

piston slap?
Lower end sounds typically don't go away when warmed up - they get worse.

I’m not sure. I’ll try to record it next time. One of my previous work vehicles was an f150 with the 5.0. It had a similar sound and ran for 190k+ trouble free miles
